Plan OpenAI Codex usage from local quota, banked resets and extra-reset forecasts.

Overview

AI-generated overview

Local MCP server that plans OpenAI Codex weekly quota usage from your signed-in Codex account, banked resets and extra-reset forecasts.

What you can do
  • Read a read-only snapshot of local Codex weekly quota, exact refresh time and banked reset expiry
  • Fetch public automatic-reset history and public posts as evidence, optionally classifying posts through a configured LLM API
  • Forecast the probability of an extra reset today and over the next 48 hours
  • Plan daily usage, waiting and banked resets across strategies, with a run-out point and fallback path
  • Open the bundled local planner page prefilled with the same inputs and plan
  • Turn quota reminders on, off, check or inspect them, adding its own Codex hook
When to use it
Useful when you rely on OpenAI Codex weekly limits and want to decide how much to use each day, whether to wait for a predicted extra reset, or when to spend a banked reset. It suits users who already run a signed-in Codex app or CLI on the same machine.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process (npm package usage-planner, Node.js 20+). Reading quota needs a signed-in Codex app or CLI on the same machine; no separate API key is required for that. Optional settings for LLM post classification and X timeline access are read from environment configuration such as USAGE_PLANNER_LLM_BASE_URL.
Before you install
Quota reading is local and read-only, and the server never redeems resets or spends credits. Enabling alerts writes one entry into the Codex hooks file and needs your approval once in Codex. If you configure an LLM API, unclassified public posts are sent to that endpoint; an optional X API token may be used. Forecasts are uncalibrated estimates, not guarantees.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Usage Planner in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

English ·

Usage Planner (formerly Codex4ever) is a planner for your OpenAI Codex weekly quota. It shows when your quota runs out at your current pace, whether a predicted extra reset is likely to arrive first, and when a banked reset is worth redeeming.

Unofficial; not affiliated with OpenAI. MIT licensed.

Pick a strategy

Ask once in Codex and the planner opens beside the chat. Pick a strategy and the plan changes: daily usage, refills and run-out points.

[Switching to Keep available and Weekdays only updates the plan; scrolling down shows the planned refills]

What it does

  • Timeline of your next two weeks — daily usage, remaining quota, run-out points, outages, normal refreshes and banked-reset uses, one column per day.
  • Extra-reset forecast — the chance of an automatic reset in the next 48 hours, the likely window, and a second reset conditioned on the first, built from public reset history and Tibo's public posts.
  • Five strategies — Keep pace (your current pace: see when quota runs out), Keep available, Use it all (empty quota just before the next refill), Weekdays only, Weekend focus.
  • Codex plugin — reads your local, signed-in quota and banked resets, plans in the conversation, and opens the same visual planner.

How it plans

  • A predicted reset is counted only when it is at least 60% likely before the refresh in effect, and it is placed at a conservative time (where it has most probably already happened), not at its single most likely hour. You can switch the count to 0, 1 or 2 on the timeline.
  • Every refill restarts the seven-day window — a banked reset, an extra reset or the normal refresh.
  • Banked resets: extras cover outages, earliest expiry first; the last one is kept for a real outage (24 h or more), and a bank about to expire can be used rather than wasted.
  • One rule everywhere: the website, the plugin page and the plugin's MCP tools always give the same plan for the same inputs.

The forecast is an uncalibrated model estimate, not a promise. Usage Planner never redeems a reset or spends credits for you.

Use it

Codex plugin (Node.js 20+ and a signed-in Codex app or CLI):

sh
codex plugin marketplace add ItsOdeLeo/usage-plannercodex plugin add usage-planner@usage-planner

Start a new Codex chat and ask: "Open quota planning." Reading your quota is local and read-only; no separate API key is needed.

Other MCP clients (Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Cursor and others): the same server is on npm as usage-planner and in the MCP Registry as io.github.ItsOdeLeo/usage-planner. Reading your quota still needs a signed-in Codex CLI on the same machine.

json
{ "mcpServers": { "usage-planner": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "usage-planner"] } } }

Website: usageplanner.com, no install. Enter your quota by hand; everything is calculated in your browser and your inputs are not sent anywhere.

[The Usage Planner timeline: daily usage, predicted resets and remaining quota]

Run locally:

sh
npm installnpm run web # http://127.0.0.1:4173/npm test

Data sources

Public reset data comes from Codex Resets, including the bundled offline archive (npm run archive:refresh). Thanks to its maintainer. With an optional X API token, Tibo's full timeline is read directly from X.

Development

CommandWhat it does
npm run webLocal site with live reset evidence (cached 30 minutes)
npm run site:buildStatic site in dist/, evidence collected at build time
npm run plugin:buildSelf-contained Codex plugin in plugins/usage-planner/
npm run mcpMCP server from source
npm run backtest:publicDay-by-day replay of the forecast against public history

.github/workflows/deploy-site.yml rebuilds the static site every 30 minutes and deploys it to Cloudflare Pages. Optional settings (LLM classification of posts, X timeline access) are listed in .env.example; keys are only read at build time and never reach the browser.

Tools

6

open_planner

Open the local visual Codex planner

Return the bundled local frontend URL, prefilled with the same quota, Tibo evidence, forecast and plan as this MCP. Refresh local Codex usage and public evidence when needed; if an LLM API is configured, classify new public posts through it. Otherwise the host can supply analysis. No reset is redeemed. The page remains available while this MCP process runs.

ParameterslanguagetimeZone

get_usage_snapshot

ParameterstimeZone

get_reset_evidence

ParametersnowtimeZoneclassifyPosts

plan_usage_strategy

默认由宿主分析帖子;classifyPosts=true 才调用配置的模型 API。

ParametersnowinputevidencelanguagetimeZoneliveEvidencealertsEnabledclassifyPostsusageSnapshotusageStrategyincludeDetailspaceMultiplier+5 more

predict_reset

classifyPosts=true 时只将未分类帖子送到 USAGE_PLANNER_LLM_BASE_URL 指定的标准 Chat Completions API。

ParametersevidencerequiredclassifyPosts

usage_alerts

Overuse alerts: warn when usage runs ahead of the plan
