Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted ClipOnIt server that lets an assistant turn long videos into captioned vertical clips and generate AI explainer videos.

What you can do
  • Import, list, inspect, wait on and delete videos from uploads or URLs
  • Find moments, adjust clip bounds, snap to words and read transcripts
  • Edit clips: subtitles, auto-reframe, auto-zoom, silence detection, descriptions
  • Export clips in 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 or 4:5 and poll or cancel exports
  • Plan and build explainer videos: ideas, storyboards, styles, element library, compose, critique, polish
  • Handle explainer voice-overs, rendering, job status and saved templates or brand settings
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to repurpose long recordings into short subtitled social clips, or to draft, refine and render animated explainer videos from a topic, script or voice-over without leaving the chat.
Requirements
Remote Streamable HTTP endpoint at cliponit.app/mcp; OAuth 2.1 with PKCE sign-in (or an API key sent as a Bearer token for scripts); a ClipOnIt account with API and MCP access included from the Starter plan.
Before you install
Requires a paid-tier account and consumes quota, so check get_quota before bulk jobs. Tools upload, import, edit, export and delete videos and clips, and rendering spends credits; deletions are not reversible. Uploaded media and generated assets are processed by the ClipOnIt service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open ClipOnIt in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.MattJeff%2Fcliponit/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

ClipOnIt MCP Server

Turn a long video into short, subtitled, auto-reframed clips — and make AI explainer videos from a topic or a voice-over — driven from Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP client. 70 tools.

ClipOnIt is a hosted video clipping service. This repository documents its remote MCP server, so that an AI assistant can run both products on your behalf:

  • Clipping — import a video, find the best moments, reframe on faces, add word-by-word subtitles, and export vertical clips.
  • Explainer videos — go from an idea, a script or a voice-over to an animated explainer built from a library of nearly 11,000 elements, then critique, polish and render it.

Endpoint: https://cliponit.app/mcp (Streamable HTTP)

Connect

Claude.ai / Claude Desktop — Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector → paste https://cliponit.app/mcp → Connect → sign in → Authorize.

Claude Code

sh
claude mcp add --transport http cliponit https://cliponit.app/mcp

Then /mcp → Authenticate.

ChatGPT — Settings → Connectors → Developer mode → Create → URL https://cliponit.app/mcp → OAuth.

Anything else — the server speaks JSON-RPC 2.0 over HTTP POST and advertises OAuth 2.1 metadata at /.well-known/oauth-protected-resource.

Authentication

OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256). Clients identify themselves with a Client ID Metadata Document (an HTTPS client_id URL) or register through Dynamic Client Registration (RFC 7591) — no manual key needed. An API key (Authorization: Bearer ck_…, created from the billing page) works too for scripts. API and MCP access are included from the Starter plan.

Formats: 9:16, 16:9, 1:1 and 4:5, each with its own independent edit. Subtitles come in five styles, word by word.

Example

"Take my last uploaded video, find the 5 best moments, reframe them on the speaker, add yellow karaoke subtitles, and export them in 9:16."

The assistant chains list_videos → get_video → auto_reframe → update_clip_edit → export_clip → wait_export and hands back the MP4 links.

"Make a 60-second explainer about how our onboarding works, in our brand colors, with a voice-over."

The assistant chains explainer_idea → explainer_produce → explainer_job_wait → explainer_critique → explainer_polish → explainer_render → explainer_wait.
