Overview

AI-generated overview

Offloads cheap work from an AI agent to a local Ollama model, keeping that work off paid cloud models.

What you can do
  • Hand off lightweight subtasks from the assistant to a local Ollama model instead of a cloud model.
  • Choose the default model, context window, request timeout and how long the model stays loaded in VRAM through environment variables.
  • Point the handoff at a specific Ollama server base URL.
  • No tool list is published, so the exact operations are not documented in the supplied material.
When to use it
Useful when you already run Ollama locally and want an agent to push simple, low-stakes work to a local model to avoid cloud token costs, while keeping heavier reasoning on the main model.
Requirements
Runs as a local process on the user's machine, installed from the PyPI package ollama-handoff over stdio. Needs a reachable Ollama server, configured with OLLAMA_URL, and optionally OLLAMA_DEFAULT_MODEL, OLLAMA_KEEP_ALIVE, OLLAMA_NUM_CTX and OLLAMA_TIMEOUT_S. Desktop only; no web execution. No authentication is declared.
Before you install
Prompts and content handed off are sent to the Ollama server at OLLAMA_URL, so make sure that endpoint is one you trust and is not exposed publicly. Keeping a model resident in VRAM via OLLAMA_KEEP_ALIVE uses local GPU memory. No tool list is published, so review what the server actually exposes before relying on it.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Ollama Handoff in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score

25% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
