Overview

AI-generated overview

SimplyUtils gives an assistant ten everyday developer and text utilities — JSON formatting, QR codes, unit and timestamp conversion, passwords, UUIDs, hashes…

What you can do
  • Format, validate, minify and key-sort JSON
  • Generate static QR codes as PNG and SVG
  • Convert units and Unix timestamps or dates across formats and time zones
  • Generate random passwords and version 4 UUIDs
  • Hash text and encode or decode Base64
  • Test JavaScript regexes with matches and capture groups, and count words, characters and reading time
When to use it
Useful when you want quick, deterministic text and developer chores handled inside a chat without leaving for a website: cleaning up a JSON blob, making a QR code, converting units or timestamps, or checking a regex against a log line.
Requirements
Either the hosted endpoint at api.simplyutils.com/mcp, or a local run via npx simplyutils-mcp (Node.js) that needs no network after install. No account, API key or environment variables are declared.
Before you install
The hosted endpoint runs on third-party infrastructure, so inputs are sent to SimplyUtils; the README says they are processed in memory and not stored. Passwords and hashes are generated or computed by the server, so avoid sending real secrets. MD5 and SHA-1 are checksum-only, and plain hashes should not be used to store passwords. Hosted use is limited to 60 requests per minute per IP.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open SimplyUtils in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.Notysoty%2Fsimplyutils-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

SimplyUtils MCP server

Everyday developer and text tools from SimplyUtils for Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor and any other Model Context Protocol client.

Ask things like "format this JSON", "make a QR code for https://example.com", "convert 5 miles to km" or "test this regex against my log line". The answers are computed directly: no AI calls, no external lookups, and nothing is stored. Each answer links to the matching free tool on simplyutils.com, where you can do more with it.

{  "mcpServers": {    "simplyutils": { "url": "https://api.simplyutils.com/mcp" }  }}

Run it locally instead (no network needed after install):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "simplyutils": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "simplyutils-mcp"] }  }}

Limits

  • Text inputs up to 100 KB; QR content up to 800 bytes.
  • Regex patterns stop after 0.5 seconds and return at most 200 matches.
  • The hosted endpoint allows 60 requests per minute per IP address.

Privacy

Tool inputs are processed in memory to produce the answer and are not stored or logged by this server. The hosted endpoint runs on SimplyUtils infrastructure; see the SimplyUtils privacy policy.

Tools

10

format_json

Format or minify JSON

Validate JSON and return it pretty-printed or minified, optionally with object keys sorted A-Z (recursively; array order is kept). Returns the formatted JSON as text. Invalid JSON returns an error naming the problem and its position. Input up to 100 KB.

ParametersjsonrequiredindentsortKeys

generate_qr_code

Generate a QR code

Make a static QR code for a link or any text, up to 800 UTF-8 bytes. Returns a 512 px PNG image plus the SVG markup. The data is stored in the code itself, so it never expires and needs no account. Light-on-dark colors are allowed, but some older scanners need dark on light. Errors are returned for empty text, content over 800 bytes, or colors that are not six-digit hex.

ParameterstextrequiredbackgroundforegrounderrorCorrection

convert_units

Convert units

Convert a number between two units of the same category and return a line such as "5 mi = 8.04672 km" (up to 10 significant digits). Units are matched by symbol or name, case-insensitive. Errors are returned for unknown units, units from another category, non-numeric values and temperatures below absolute zero. Months are 1/12 of a 365-day year. Units by category (symbols): length: m, km, mi, ft, in, cm, mm, yd, nmi; weight: kg, g, lb, oz, t, mg, st; temperature: °C, °F, K; volume: L, mL, gal, fl oz, cup, tbsp, m³; speed: km/h, mph, m/s, kn, ft/s; area: m², km², mi², ft², ac, ha; data: B, KB, MB, GB, TB, bit, KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB; time: s, min, h, d, wk, mo, yr, ms.

Parameterstorequiredfromrequiredvaluerequiredcategoryrequired

generate_password

Generate strong passwords

Generate random passwords with Node's cryptographically secure generator. Each enabled character set appears at least once and the result is shuffled. Returns one password per line; every call gives new results. An error is returned if all character sets are turned off. Passwords are not stored or logged.

Parameterscountlengthnumberssymbolslowercaseuppercase

generate_uuid

Generate UUIDs

Generate random version 4 UUIDs (RFC 9562) in lowercase 8-4-4-4-12 form, one per line. Every call gives new values.

Parameterscount

hash_text

Hash text

Hash text (encoded as UTF-8) and return a line such as 'sha256: ba78...' with the lowercase hex digest. The same input always gives the same hash. MD5 and SHA-1 are only for checksums, not security; do not use plain hashes to store passwords. Input up to 100 KB.

Parameterstextrequiredalgorithm

base64

Base64 encode or decode

Encode text (as UTF-8) to Base64, or decode Base64 back to text, and return the result. Decoding accepts standard and URL-safe alphabets and ignores whitespace; invalid Base64 returns an error. Bytes that are not valid UTF-8 are shown as replacement characters. Input up to 100 KB.

ParametersmoderequiredtextrequiredurlSafe

test_regex

Test a regular expression

Run a JavaScript (ECMAScript) regular expression against text. Returns the match count and, for each match, the matched text, its 0-based index, numbered capture groups and named groups. Returns 'No matches.' when nothing matches. All matches are listed (the g flag is added automatically), up to 200. Invalid patterns or flags return an error explaining why; patterns that run longer than 0.5 seconds are stopped with an error. Text up to 100 KB.

Parameterstextrequiredflagspatternrequired

convert_timestamp

Convert a Unix timestamp or date

Convert a Unix timestamp or a date to Unix seconds, Unix milliseconds, ISO 8601 (UTC), an HTTP-style UTC string and a readable date in the chosen time zone. Numbers with 13 or more digits are read as milliseconds, shorter ones as seconds. Dates without a time zone are read as UTC. Errors are returned for unreadable dates and unknown time zones.

ParametersvaluerequiredtimeZone

count_words

Count words and characters

Count words, characters (with and without spaces), sentences and paragraphs, and estimate reading time at 238 words per minute. Words are runs of letters or digits in any language; hyphenated words and contractions count once. Paragraphs are separated by blank lines. Input up to 100 KB.
