SOS.city public record

io.github.Proof-LayerPublished by GitHub account Proof-Layerv1.1.0Updated Nov 8, 2026

Public records for every city: permits, alerts, wildfires, laws and funding, linked to the source.

Overview

AI-generated overview

SOS.city indexes public records by place, department and publisher, letting an assistant find sources, read agency open-data records and request missing…

What you can do
  • Search and inspect public-record sources by question, keyword or place, with publisher, link, licence and update details
  • Browse the place atlas of countries, states, counties and cities, and the 15 departments sources are filed under
  • Query agency open-data records such as permits, inspections, business registrations, weather alerts, wildfires and power shutoffs
  • Check the gap board for records not held, and submit a request for a missing record
  • View the data store, credit balance and prices, start a purchase, and fetch a city data pack
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to answer questions about local public records, permits, alerts or agency datasets and must point to the original publisher. Also suited to checking whether a record exists at all before telling a user it does not.
Requirements
Remote endpoint at api.sos.city over streamable HTTP; no authentication is declared for the free tools. Paid features need an API key for credit balance and purchases, or payment by x402 USDC or a Stripe checkout link.
Before you install
Some data is paid: credits cost money (1 credit = 1 cent), and buy starts a real Stripe checkout or x402 USDC payment, so confirm with the person paying first. request_record may send an email address to the service. The server forbids using it to locate, profile or screen people, and it is not an emergency service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open SOS.city public record in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.Proof-Layer%2Fsos-city/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

search_library

Search the public record

Find public-records sources (datasets, portals, registers, reports) by question or keywords. Use `place` to include everything covering a place, from the city up to federal and global sources. Returns the publisher, how to get the data (API endpoint or page), update rate, last update, licence and whether we verified it. Not for finding, profiling or screening people.

List shelves

The 15 departments (shelves) every source sits on, with what each covers.

Records people need that the library doesn't hold yet, or that no agency publishes. Check this before telling a user a record doesn't exist.

Parametersplacestatus

search_records

Search the records themselves

The records SOS.city reads from agencies' open data, one row each: building permits, code-enforcement cases, inspections, certificates of occupancy, new business registrations, grants, weather alerts, earthquakes, US wildfires (NIFC) and SCE power shutoffs. Filter by place, kind, ZIP or street address. Each row links to the agency's original. History depends on the plan (Free: 30 days, 100 rows). full_history=true (1 credit) and limit over 100 (1 credit per extra 100 rows, up to 1,000) are paid from the API key's credits; see get_store.

request_record

Request a record

Ask SOS.city to find a public record that isn't in the library. It joins the gap board; give an email to hear back. Never for locating or profiling a person.

get_store

See prices and how to pay

The SOS.city data store: what's free, what costs credits (1 credit = 1 cent), credit packs, city data packs, building records and deep searches, and every way to pay (credits with an API key, x402 USDC, or a Stripe link for a person). Shows the caller's credit balance when an API key is sent.

Takes no parameters.

buy

Buy credits or a city data pack

Starts a one-time purchase and returns a Stripe Checkout link for the person who pays, plus a status_url to poll. product: credits_1k ($10), credits_10k ($79) or city_pack ($29, needs place). The person must agree to the data-use terms (no screening or profiling people): pass agree_data_use=true only after they have.

get_city_pack

Get a city data pack

Every source that covers one place (with publisher, original link, licence and reuse terms) plus a year of records whose sources allow reuse. Costs 2900 credits from the API key's balance. Without credits, use buy (product city_pack) or the REST URL with x402.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
