Searches US trademark records, screens proposed brand names for conflicts, and looks up USPTO registration details.
What you can do
Search and screen names: full-text, typo-tolerant search across USPTO records, availability checks with similarity scores and risk levels, and batch screening of 1–25 names
Look up records: fetch a full trademark by serial number, including owner, status, classes and goods/services
Review history and portfolios: event timelines for a mark, and all marks held by a person or company
Reference data: list the 45 Nice Classification classes to pick the right class before screening
When to use it
Useful when an assistant helps name a company, product or brand and should check the US register before suggesting names, or when you need to inspect a competitor's or client's trademark portfolio and filing history.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio via the npm package @radsoft/markbase-mcp, so Node.js is needed. Requires a Markbase API key in the MARKBASE_API_KEY environment variable; the free key allows 5,000 requests per month, and batch screening needs a Launch or Scale key. Network access to the Markbase service is required.
Before you install
The API key is a secret passed in MARKBASE_API_KEY. Batch screening consumes one monthly request per submitted name, including duplicates, and an admitted batch uses quota even if a search fails, so automatic retries can waste quota. Results are preliminary screening signals, not legal advice.
Full-text, typo-tolerant search across 14M+ USPTO trademark records. Use this to find existing marks by name. Filter by class to scope to relevant goods/services, and by status to exclude dead marks.
Screen a proposed name against existing trademarks
Screen a proposed brand or company name against the US register and get ranked existing marks, each with a spelling similarity score and risk level. Use this BEFORE suggesting a company, product, or brand name to a user. This is a first-pass screening signal, not legal advice.
Screen 1–25 proposed names against the US register using a Launch or Scale key. Each submitted name consumes one monthly request, including duplicate names. An admitted batch consumes quota even if a search fails; do not retry automatically. Results keep input order. This is preliminary screening, not legal advice or a registration guarantee.
