Dependency audits, live CVE scans, migration detection and stack health across 9 languages.
Overview
Depsonar audits project dependencies across 9 languages: outdated packages, live CVE scans, migrations, secrets, licenses and infrastructure health.
- What you can do
- Scan and check projects for outdated dependencies, with health scores and batch updates at patch, minor or latest levels
- Run security checks: native audits, curated framework advisories, live CVE lookups and secret scanning
- Review changelogs, breaking changes, deprecated packages, license compliance and framework migration patterns
- Audit infrastructure: runtime EOL, global toolchain versions, Docker base images, GitHub Actions and .env or lockfile state
- Set up scheduled background scans and read cached alerts, and view or edit configuration
- When to use it
- Useful when you maintain one or many code projects and want an assistant to keep dependencies current, surface vulnerabilities and flag maintenance work without running each package manager by hand. Best suited to local development machines where the projects live.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio as an npm package (npx, global install or a clone with Node.js and a build step). Desktop-only; no authentication or environment variables are declared. Needs network access to package registries and the osv.dev API, and a configured projects directory, auto-detected from common folders or set in a config file.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Depsonar in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
The most complete dependency audit MCP server.
Scan · Audit · Update · Migrate — 9 languages, 23 tools, one MCP server

[Install in Cursor] [Install via Web]
depsonar is an MCP server that keeps your projects' dependencies up to date, scans for vulnerabilities, detects framework migrations, and audits your entire dev infrastructure — directly from Cursor, Claude, or any MCP-compatible AI assistant.
Supports Node.js, Python, Rust, Go, PHP, Ruby, Dart/Flutter, Swift, and Kotlin/Java.
Why depsonar?
With AI-generated "vibe coding" projects, dependency maintenance is an afterthought. WordPress solved this with one-click updates. depsonar brings the same experience to modern development — plus security scanning, migration detection, and infrastructure auditing.
Features
Dependency Management
- Multi-language: 9 languages, auto-detected
- Framework-aware: SvelteKit, Next.js, Nuxt, Astro, Django, Laravel, Express...
- Safe updates: 3 levels (patch/minor/latest) with dry-run preview
- Batch operations: Update all projects at once
- Ecosystem grouping: Results grouped by Svelte, Supabase, Tailwind, Vite, etc.
Security & Compliance
- Live CVE scanning via osv.dev API (npm, PyPI, crates.io, Go, PHP, Ruby)
- Framework CVE database: Curated advisories for Svelte, Next.js, Vite, Express, Axios
- Native audit integration: npm audit, cargo audit, pip-audit, composer audit, govulncheck
- Secret scanner: Detects AWS keys, GitHub tokens, Stripe keys, database URLs, and more
- License compliance: Flags GPL/AGPL copyleft, non-commercial, and unknown licenses
Migration & Maintenance
- Migration detector: Identifies code patterns that need changing (Svelte 4→5 runes, Next.js Pages→App Router)
- Changelog preview: See breaking changes before updating
- Deprecated detection: Finds unmaintained packages and suggests replacements
- Health scores: 0-100 per project based on deps, security, lockfile, runtime
- Background checker: Scheduled scans via macOS launchd or Linux cron
Infrastructure Audit
- Runtime versions: Node.js, Python, Rust, Go, PHP, Ruby, Dart, Swift (EOL detection)
- Global toolchain: npm, pnpm, yarn, bun, cargo, pip, git, docker, vercel, supabase, wrangler
- Docker image audit: Detects outdated/EOL base images
- GitHub Actions audit: Flags deprecated actions across all workflows
- Environment check: .env sync, lockfile freshness, config validation
Quick Start
Option 1: npx (zero install)
Add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json:
Automatic updates
Every install below keeps itself up to date, without restarting Claude or Cursor. The MCP client talks to a small supervisor (bin/supervise.cjs) that stays connected while the server runs behind it. At start-up and every 6 hours it asks npm for the latest depsonar, installs it in the background in ~/.soflution/mcp/depsonar/, and switches over as soon as no request is in flight (the client is told the tool list may have changed). A version that fails to start is rolled back at once and never picked again on that machine. npm checks the integrity of every download, and releases are published from GitHub Actions with provenance.
The only network call is that version check to registry.npmjs.org; nothing about your machine or your use is sent. Turn it off with NO_UPDATE_NOTIFIER=1 (or SOFLUTION_AUTO_UPDATE=0). Started directly with node dist/..., depsonar does not update itself and only mentions a newer version in its first tool result.
Option 2: Global install
Option 3: Clone
Restart Cursor after editing the config.

Background Checker
The background checker scans your projects on a schedule and caches results. When you open Cursor, depsonar_alerts reads the cache instantly — zero wait.
- A lightweight script runs every N hours via macOS launchd or Linux cron
- Scans all projects, compares versions with registries
- Writes results to
~/.depsonar-cache.json, exits immediately - Zero RAM between runs, zero AI tokens, zero cost
Setup from Cursor: "Setup background checking every 6 hours"
Configuration
Set your projects directory (auto-detected from ~/Cursor/App, ~/Projects, ~/Developer, ~/Code, ~/dev):
Or from Cursor: "Set my projects directory to ~/Code"

50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
