Overview

AI-generated overview

Searches flight fares Sparkflights has already found, shows one fare's dates and flights, and links a route watch form.

What you can do
  • Search collected flight fares by city or airport, departure month, cabin, region and maximum price, ranked by cost per mile
  • Inspect a single fare's itinerary, outbound and return flights, and the date pairs its fare page lists with prices
  • Get the link to a route's watch form, pre-filled with both cities and the cabin
When to use it
When someone asks for flight deals between cities, in a given month, cabin or budget, and wants the dates and flights behind a specific fare or a way to be notified about new fares on a route.
Requirements
A remote streamable HTTP endpoint; nothing to install, no account and no API key. Saving a route watch on the site needs a free Sparkflights account.
Before you install
The tools only read data. Results are not a live fare search: an empty result means no current fare matches, not that no flights exist. Booking happens on the linked Sparkflights fare page; the server does not sell tickets or take payments. Saving a watch requires an account and sends new deals by email or browser notification.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Sparkflights in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.Sparkflights-com%2Fsparkflights/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Sparkflights MCP server

Search the flight fares Sparkflights has found, from Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, VS Code or any other MCP client, and watch a route for new ones.

https://www.sparkflights.com/mcp/search

The server is hosted — nothing to install. Searching needs no account; to save a route watch you sign in with Google, Microsoft or email. It uses streamable HTTP.

Tools

search_deals and get_deal only read fares. watch_route saves a watch to your account.

  • search_deals finds fares by origin and destination (an airport code such as JFK, or a city such as New York), departure month, cabin, region and maximum price. Results are ranked by cost per mile.
  • get_deal returns one fare's itinerary, flights and the date pairs its fare page lists, with their prices.
  • watch_route saves a fare watch for the route — every airport of both cities, in the cabin you name. The first time you save one your client signs you in; new deals on the route then come by email and browser notification.

Each fare links to its Sparkflights fare page, where you book it.

Sparkflights is not a live fare search. An empty result means no fare matches right now, not that no flights exist. Sparkflights does not sell tickets or take payments.

Add it to your client

Claude (claude.ai or Claude Desktop): Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, then paste the URL above.

Claude Code:

sh
claude mcp add --transport http sparkflights https://www.sparkflights.com/mcp/search

Cursor (~/.cursor/mcp.json):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "sparkflights": {      "url": "https://www.sparkflights.com/mcp/search"    }  }}

VS Code (.vscode/mcp.json):

json
{  "servers": {    "sparkflights": {      "type": "http",      "url": "https://www.sparkflights.com/mcp/search"    }  }}

ChatGPT: turn on developer mode, then add a custom MCP server with the URL above.

Other clients: mcp.json has the standard mcpServers entry.

get_deal

Get a flight deal

One Sparkflights fare by the numeric id from search_deals: its itinerary, the price text of its fare page, its outbound and return flights, the date pairs its fare page lists with their prices, and its url, route_url and feed_url. A fare that is no longer live returns an error naming its route page.

Parametersidrequired

search_deals

Search flight deals

Search flight fares Sparkflights has already found, ranked by cost per mile against each market's limit. Not a live fare search: an empty result means no current fare matches. Each deal has the price text of its Sparkflights fare page; url, the fare page; route_url, the route page, which lists the route's live fares and price history; and feed_url, the route's JSON feed of new fares. A search naming an origin or destination also returns fares when its deals are fewer than limit: the cheapest current fares for that place, as Google's flight explorer showed them, each with its price, dates, airline, seen_at (when it was seen) and route_url, its route page. A fare has no id or fare page yet.

watch_route

Watch a route

The Sparkflights page that saves a fare watch for a route: url opens the watch form with both cities and the cabin filled in. A watch covers every airport of both cities. Saving it needs a free Sparkflights account.
