Smart Reader MCP
io.github.SylphxAIPublished by GitHub account SylphxAIv0.1.1Updated Oct 24, 2026
Sniff format and delegate to Sylphx Reader siblings for unified media read.
Overview
A retired local media router that sniffed file formats and delegated to Sylphx Reader sibling servers; its own README says not to install it.
- What you can do
- Detected the format of a media file and routed the request to the matching Sylphx Reader sibling server (Citra for PDF, Iris for images, Cue for video).
- Spawned those sibling MCP servers as child processes to give a unified media read.
- Kept magic-byte sniffing reference code that can be copied into a host skill.
- No tool list is published, and the project is marked retired as of 2026-08-07.
- When to use it
- Not recommended for new setups: the README explicitly says not to add it as a current MCP server. For PDF, image or video evidence, use the sibling servers Citra, Iris or Cue instead, or a host skill that sniffs the format and calls the right one.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local stdio process, historically distributed as the npm package @sylphx/smart-reader-mcp with the prism binary. No authentication, environment variables or headers are declared. It expected the sibling Sylphx Reader servers to be available for delegation.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Smart Reader MCP in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
RETIRED — Prism / smart-reader-mcp
Status: retired product (hard cut, 2026-08-07)
Prism was a local media router (sniff + spawn Citra/Iris/Cue MCP servers). That composition belongs to the agent host / skills, not a seventh product.
Do not install as a product
- Do not add
smart-reader-mcp/prismas a current MCP server for new agents. - Do not treat this repository as an active Instrument, marketplace listing, or release authority.
- Historical source remains for archaeology only.
What to use instead
Why retired
- Multi-server MCP hosts already compose independent servers.
- A router product doubles process tax and couples three release trains.
- Instruments law: host owns composition; products own one evidence domain.
Historical package ids (non-authority)
@sylphx/smart-reader-mcp- bin
prism/smart-reader-mcp - MCP name
io.github.SylphxAI/smart-reader-mcp
If these still resolve on npm, they are legacy artifacts, not the current product model.
Sniff utility (non-product)
Magic-byte sniffing for host skills lives under src/sniff/ as reference code.
Prefer copying a minimal sniff into a host skill rather than depending on this package.

50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
