Overview

AI-generated overview

A local macOS MCP server that lets an assistant design 3D-printable keychains, cookie cutters, signs and parts, producing watertight STL files with previews.

What you can do
Create designs from templates such as keychains, cookie cutters, name signs, coasters, gift tags and stencils, or from custom shapes and text in millimetres, including holes, stacked layers and thin walls. Generate a rendered preview and a watertight STL for slicing, plus an editable project file. Check an existing STL for size, volume, filament weight and whether it is watertight. Save output files to the DrawPad Designs folder in the user's Documents.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to turn a short description into a printable 3D model, such as a named keychain or a sized cookie cutter, or to sanity-check an STL before printing.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process on macOS (Apple silicon and Intel). Install the Claude Desktop bundle or run the npm package with npx; no authentication, environment variables or headers are declared.
Before you install
It writes design files to the DrawPad Designs folder under Documents, so check where output lands. Designs are intended for 3D printing; verify dimensions and watertightness before printing.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open DrawPad in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

DrawPad MCP

This repository is where DrawPad MCP is released and supported: DrawPad.mcpb for Claude Desktop is on the Releases page, and bugs and requests go in Issues. All of Opticell's free tools for Claude: opticell-mcp.

Let Claude design things you can 3D-print. Ask for "a keychain that says LUNA", "a 60 mm star cookie cutter" or "a plant label for basil". Claude builds it with the engine from DrawPad Pro.stl, shows you a preview, and saves a watertight STL for your slicer plus a DrawPad project you can keep editing on iPad.

macOS (Apple silicon and Intel).

Install

Claude Desktop: download DrawPad.mcpb from https://www.opticell-limited.com/drawpad and double-click it.

Claude Code

sh
claude mcp add drawpad -- npx -y @opticell/drawpad-mcp mcp

Any other MCP client: run npx -y @opticell/drawpad-mcp mcp as a stdio server.

What Claude can do

  • Templates: keychain, cookie cutter (heart, star, circle, flower, cloud or any outline), name sign, coaster, gift tag, stencil.
  • Custom designs: circles, rectangles, polygons, stars, hearts and text, with holes, stacked layers and thin walls, all in millimetres.
  • Check an STL: size, volume, filament weight, and whether it's watertight.

Every design reports its size, volume and grams of PLA/PETG, and comes with a rendered preview. Files go to ~/Documents/DrawPad Designs.

Open designs in DrawPad Pro.stl

AirDrop the .lsproj file to your iPad or iPhone, or save it to iCloud Drive, and open it. DrawPad imports it as a new project, and templates stay editable.
