Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that lets an assistant pull Hacker News stories, Dev.to articles, IMDB titles, podcasts and Eventbrite events through Apify.

What you can do
Retrieve top, new or best stories from Hacker News and search Dev.to articles for developer content discovery. Search IMDB for movies and TV shows, and search podcast episodes across platforms. Search Eventbrite for events. All requests are forwarded from the local process to the nexgendata Apify endpoint and results are returned to the assistant.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to gather trending tech news, developer blog posts, film and TV lookups, podcast episodes or local events in one place, especially for content research or editorial planning.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process, typically launched with npx or installed globally via npm, so Node.js is needed. It needs network access to reach the Apify endpoint. The APIFY_TOKEN environment variable is optional; without it the server uses a rate-limited public endpoint.
Before you install
The server forwards every tool request to a third-party Apify endpoint, so queries and results leave your machine. APIFY_TOKEN is a secret credential; keep it out of shared config files. The README marks the token optional, while the manifest lists it as required, so check which applies. Results depend on Apify actor availability and public-endpoint rate limits.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Social Content Mcp Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Score

40% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
