Before you install
Conversions are paid: each one costs 10 credits, with free credits for new accounts, so usage spends account balance. Diagram image files are uploaded to LayerBack for processing and are said to be deleted within 72 hours, so avoid sending confidential diagrams. The API key is a secret and should not be shared.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Layerback Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

LayerBack MCP Server

Give your AI agent the one diagram skill it's missing: turning pictures of diagrams into fully editable files.

Agents can write Mermaid — but when the input is a screenshot, a whiteboard photo, or a diagram trapped in a PDF page, they're stuck. This MCP server connects any MCP-compatible agent (Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, …) to LayerBack, which rebuilds every shape, connector, and label as a native object and returns Visio (VSDX), PowerPoint (PPTX), draw.io, and SVG — all editable, from one conversion.
