Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only MCP server that lets an assistant inspect the Tari base layer (Minotari) via Tari's public explorer: chain tip, blocks and coinbase data.

What you can do
  • Read the chain tip: latest block height, hash, time and mempool size
  • Inspect a single block: hashes, time, proof-of-work algorithm, coinbase total in XTM, and counts of outputs, inputs and kernels
  • List a block's outputs across every page, with type, commitment, hash and maturity
  • Show coinbase extra data as text to see which miner or pool mined a block, optionally filtered to coinbases only
  • Switch between mainnet and the Esmeralda testnet on every call
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to answer questions about Tari chain state, block contents or who mined a block, without leaving the chat. Suited to exploration and research rather than any write or wallet activity.
Requirements
Runs locally as a stdio process; needs Node.js 20 or newer and can be started with npx. Network access to Tari's public text explorer is required. No API keys or accounts.
Before you install
Read-only and needs no credentials, so risk is low. Data comes from a third-party public explorer, so results depend on its availability and accuracy. Block output listings can span many pages and may be large.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Tari Explorer in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

ootlebook-explorer-mcp

An MCP server that lets an AI agent read the Tari base layer (Minotari, mainnet or the Esmeralda testnet) from Tari's public text explorer. Read-only, no keys, no dependencies beyond Node 20+. Inspired by kstrycharz/tariblocktools.

ToolWhat it answers
tari_tipthe latest block's height, hash and time, and the mempool size
tari_blockone block: hashes, time, proof-of-work algorithm, coinbase total, counts of outputs, inputs and kernels
tari_block_outputsa block's outputs, every page of them; coinbases include the miner's coinbase extra data as text (coinbase_only for just those)

Every tool takes network: mainnet (default) or esmeralda.

Use it

bash
claude mcp add ootlebook-explorer -- npx -y ootlebook-explorer-mcp # Claude Code

Other MCP clients: run npx -y ootlebook-explorer-mcp as a stdio server. From a checkout: node explorer-mcp/server.mjs.

Test

bash
npm test # offline, against a fake explorer

Tools

3

tari_tip

The tip of the Tari base layer (Minotari): the latest block's height, hash and time, and how many transactions wait in the mempool.

Parametersnetwork

tari_block

One Tari base-layer block: hash, previous hash, time, proof-of-work algorithm, total coinbase in XTM, and how many outputs, inputs and kernels it holds.

Parametersheightrequirednetwork

tari_block_outputs

The outputs of one Tari base-layer block: type, commitment, hash and maturity, and for coinbases the miner's coinbase extra data as text (often the mining software or pool). Set coinbase_only to see just who mined it.
