Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that fits a video or GIF to a destination's size limit at measured quality and can share a link.

What you can do
Optimize a video or GIF so it fits a destination's size limit at measured quality, running locally on the user's machine over stdio. Optionally share the result as a link through a share server, which needs a token obtained by logging in or from a gifgif.dev Library. No individual tools are listed in the manifest, so exact operations are not documented here.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to prepare a video or GIF for a platform with a file-size cap and wants the quality measured rather than guessed, and optionally hand back a shareable link.
Requirements
Runs as a local process via npx from the npm package gifgif, so Node.js is needed. Sharing links requires the optional GIFGIF_SHARE_TOKEN environment variable, obtained by running gifgif login or created in a gifgif.dev Library for CI. Local optimization works without the token. Desktop only.
Before you install
The optional GIFGIF_SHARE_TOKEN is a secret that authorizes the share server; keep it out of logs and shared configs. Sharing uploads the media to a third-party service, so avoid confidential footage. Local optimization writes output files on the user's machine.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Gifgif in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
