Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that lets an assistant upscale images into print-ready TIFF, PNG or JPG files through the PrintScale service.

What you can do
Upscale an image from a public URL or a local file path, choosing auto, 2x, 3x or print mode with centimeter size and DPI for print output, and get back TIFF/PNG/JPG download links. Check the status of an upscale job by its id. Show the remaining PrintScale credit balance.
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to prepare product photos or artwork for printing at a target physical size and resolution, or to check on and retrieve upscaled files without leaving the chat.
Requirements
Runs locally as an npm package started with npx (Node.js required) or from source with node. Needs a PrintScale account and an API key supplied in the PRINTSCALE_API_KEY environment variable; PRINTSCALE_BASE_URL is optional. Network access to the PrintScale service is required.
Before you install
Upscaling charges PrintScale credits shared with your account, and credits are bought in the app. The API key is a live secret passed in the environment. Images given by URL or local path are sent to the PrintScale service, and output files are deleted after 3 days, so download them within that window.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Printscale Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

printscale-mcp

An MCP server that lets AI agents (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Claude Code, etc.) upscale images to print-ready files (TIFF + PNG + JPG) via PrintScale.

Setup

  1. Create an API key at https://printscale.app/dashboard/api.
  2. Add the server to your MCP client config, with the key as an env var.

Claude Desktop / Cursor (mcp config)

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "printscale": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "printscale-mcp"],      "env": { "PRINTSCALE_API_KEY": "psk_live_xxxxxxxx" }    }  }}

Claude Code (CLI)

bash
claude mcp add printscale -e PRINTSCALE_API_KEY=psk_live_xxx -- npx -y printscale-mcp

Running locally from source instead of npm? Use "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/printscale-mcp/index.mjs"].

Tools

  • printscale_upscale — upscale an image. Provide a public image_url or a local file_path. Choose mode (auto / 2x / 3x / print); for print, set cm and dpi. Returns TIFF/PNG/JPG download URLs. Charges credits.
  • printscale_job — check a job's status by id.
  • printscale_credits — show the remaining credit balance.

Example prompts

  • "Upscale ./product.jpg to 60 cm at 300 DPI for print."
  • "Upscale https://example.com/photo.png at 3x and give me the TIFF."
  • "How many PrintScale credits do I have left?"

Notes

  • Start from a sharp source — PrintScale enlarges detail, it doesn't repair blurry or low-quality images.
  • Outputs are available for 3 days, then deleted. Download within the window.
  • Credits are shared with your PrintScale account (buy them in the app).

Env: PRINTSCALE_API_KEY (required), PRINTSCALE_BASE_URL (optional, defaults to https://printscale.app).

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
