Overview

AI-generated overview

Connects an AI assistant to Freero, a collaborative whiteboard it can read, fill and show live, with changes you review.

What you can do
  • Read and fill whiteboard content: sticky notes, shapes, rich text, connectors, images, frames, task cards and mind maps
  • Show board changes live for review rather than applying them silently
  • Work with an infinite canvas that supports pan/zoom, groups, locking and undo/redo
  • Support collaboration features such as comments, roles, sharing and presentation mode
  • Use templates and export boards as images or frames to PDF
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to draft or populate diagrams, mind maps and workshop boards on a shared canvas, or to present board content live to a team while you review each change.
Requirements
A remote MCP endpoint at freero.app reached over streamable HTTP, with OAuth sign-in required. No environment variables or headers are declared. The self-hosted project itself needs Node 22+ and a database, but that is not needed to use the hosted endpoint.
Before you install
The server can write to shared boards, so assistant-made changes affect what collaborators see; review them before accepting. Access is granted through OAuth to your Freero account and boards, so grant it only to accounts whose boards you are comfortable exposing. Board content is stored by the hosted service.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Freero in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.antonber%2Ffreero/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

Freero

An original real-time collaborative whiteboard: an infinite canvas for teams to brainstorm, plan, diagram and run workshops together.

What's in it

  • Canvas — infinite pan/zoom, dot grid, minimap, snapping and alignment guides, multi-select, resize/rotate, groups, lock, undo/redo, copy/paste across boards, drag-and-drop import.
  • Content — sticky notes, 21 shapes, rich text, connectors (straight/elbow/curved, attached, labelled), pen + highlighter + eraser, images, emoji and stamps, frames, task cards, mind maps, tags, PDFs, video and audio that play on the board, and file cards for any other file.
  • Collaboration — live sync, cursors and selections, avatars, follow a collaborator, "bring everyone to me", emoji reactions, comment threads, owner/editor/commenter/viewer roles, share by invite or link.
  • Facilitation — voting sessions, a shared timer, presentation mode over frames.
  • Templates & export — 180 original templates in 18 categories; export PNG/JPG/SVG, frames to PDF, copy as image.
  • Dashboard — boards grid/list, search, filters, stars, live thumbnails, duplicate, sharing.

Run it

Requires Node 22+.

bash
npm installnpm run dev # server on :4000 + web on :5173

Open http://localhost:5173 and log in with the seeded demo account [email protected] / freero123 (development only), or sign up. http://localhost:5173/board/local is an offline sandbox board that needs no server.

Production:

bash
npm run build && npm start # serves the built web app and the marketing site (apps/site) on :4000docker compose up --build -d # or the full stack: proxy, 2 app replicas, Postgres, Redis, MinIO, Mailpit on :8080

Deploying for real: docs/deployment.md · every setting: docs/configuration.md · backups, monitoring, incidents: docs/operations.md.

Configuration: PORT (default 4000), FREERO_DATA_DIR (default ./data — the built-in PGlite database in data/pg + uploads), DATABASE_URL (use a real Postgres instead), DATABASE_POOL_MAX (default 10). Had boards from before the move to Postgres? Stop the dev server and run npm run db:import-sqlite once.

Develop

CommandWhat it does
npm run checkArchitecture boundaries + typecheck + unit tests
npm run verifyReal-session end-to-end check: real server, real Yjs WebSocket clients, roles, persistence
npm run new:feature <name> -- …Scaffold a feature folder (see ARCHITECTURE.md)
node scripts/ui-shot.mjs --url … --out …Drive the real UI in headless Chromium and screenshot it

Freero follows the Dune method: features are isolated folders discovered by reserved file names, every piece of state has one writer, and forbidden dependencies fail npm run check with an error that names the supported path. Read ARCHITECTURE.md before changing code.

Stack: React 18 + TypeScript + Vite, Yjs (CRDT) over WebSockets, Express + ws, PostgreSQL (pg; PGlite for dev/tests), Playwright for UI verification.

License

MIT. Dependencies are kept to permissive licences (MIT, Apache-2.0, MPL-2.0); GPL, AGPL and source-available projects are integrated at the protocol level only, never vendored.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
