A MCP server provides SQL database access with support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.
Overview
Local MCP server that gives an assistant SQL access to PostgreSQL, MySQL and SQLite databases: list tables, inspect schemas and run queries.
- What you can do
- List all tables in the connected database
- Inspect a table's columns, types, constraints and indexes
- Run arbitrary SQL, including INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE and DDL
- Run read-only SELECT queries with extra safety checks
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to explore and query an existing relational database — checking schemas, drafting SELECT statements, or making deliberate data changes — without building a custom integration.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as a Python package (fastmcp-sqltools, typically launched with uvx) over stdio. Needs a DATABASE_URL environment variable in a PostgreSQL, MySQL or SQLite URL format; the database type is detected from it. Network access to the database host for PostgreSQL and MySQL.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Fastmcp Sqltools in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

FastMCP SQL Tools
mcp-name: io.github.atarkowska/fastmcp-sqltools
A Model Context Protocol (MCP) server built with FastMCP that provides SQL database access with support for PostgreSQL, MySQL, and SQLite.
Features
- list_tables: List all tables in the database
- get_table_schema: Get detailed schema information for a table including columns, types, constraints, and indexes
- execute_query: Execute any SQL query (INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE, DDL, etc.)
- execute_safe_query: Execute read-only SELECT queries with additional safety checks
Supported Databases
- PostgreSQL: Full support via asyncpg
- MySQL: Full support via aiomysql
- SQLite: Full support via aiosqlite
The server automatically detects the database type from the DATABASE_URL environment variable.
Configuration
Add the following to your claude_desktop_config.json:
Database URL Format
The DATABASE_URL should be in one of the following formats:
- PostgreSQL:
postgresql://user:password@host:port/databaseorpostgres://user:password@host:port/database - MySQL:
mysql://user:password@host:port/database - SQLite:
sqlite:///path/to/database.db(use three slashes for absolute path)

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
