Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only MCP server giving assistants live Japanese public data: earthquakes, weather warnings, forecasts, typhoons, EDINET filings and postal-code lookup…

What you can do
  • Retrieve recent earthquakes with magnitude, intensity and depth, and active typhoon tracking
  • Check active weather warnings and advisories by prefecture, plus narrative weather overviews and 7-day forecasts
  • Look up statutory corporate disclosures from EDINET by date
  • Resolve Japanese postal codes to addresses in kanji and kana
  • Get a one-call cross-source summary of the above
  • Every response includes a sources list and a data_gaps list showing what could not be retrieved
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs current, authoritative information about Japan — disaster and weather conditions, corporate filings, or address lookups — without scraping sites or paying a data vendor. Good for monitoring, research and agent workflows focused on Japanese public data.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process on the user's machine (desktop only); installable from the MCP bundle or via pip. No API key, account or environment variables are declared. Needs network access to the Japanese public data sources it queries.
Before you install
All eight tools are read-only and no credentials are requested, so risk is low. Data comes from third-party public sources (JMA, EDINET, zipcloud) and may be incomplete or unavailable; check the data_gaps field rather than assuming a full result. The README also points to paid Apify and Gumroad channels, which are separate from the free server.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Japan Intel Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

japan-intel-mcp

MCP server for Japanese public data — earthquakes, weather warnings, typhoons, weekly forecasts, corporate filings (EDINET), and postal-code lookup. Free, keyless, no API key required.

An MCP server that gives AI agents cross-source access to live Japanese public data with citations. Every response carries sources and data_gaps, so agents can tell what was retrieved and what was not.

Built for AI agents, LLM toolchains, and developers who need current Japan information without scraping or paying for a data vendor.

Why this exists

Most "global intelligence" MCP servers are built on Western data sources. Japanese public data is free and authoritative (Japan Meteorological Agency, EDINET, Japan Post) but scattered across HTML pages and undocumented endpoints. This server normalizes them behind 8 read-only tools.

  • Free — no API key, no signup, no rate-limit tier
  • Cited — every response includes sources
  • Honest — failures are reported in data_gaps, never silently dropped

Score

40% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
