Research private companies, founders, investors, funding rounds, and news with aVenture

Overview

AI-generated overview

aVenture lets an assistant research private companies, founders, investors, funding rounds and news, with sourced answers.

What you can do
  • Read company and person profiles, including funding history and connections between founders and companies
  • Look up companies by name or by domain
  • Run plain-English searches, such as finding seed-stage companies in a city or sector
  • Ask competitor and investor-activity questions (paid plans)
  • List aVenture plans with monthly and annual prices
When to use it
Useful when you need quick, cited background on private companies, their founders, investors or funding rounds inside a chat client, rather than switching to a separate research site.
Requirements
Either the hosted endpoint with OAuth sign-in to a free aVenture account, or a local run of the npm package on Node.js 24.x (24.22.1 or newer; Node.js 25 unsupported) listening on localhost. Local mode needs an aVenture API key sent as an Authorization Bearer header.
Before you install
Usage is metered by plan: free accounts have monthly profile-read limits and daily search and lookup caps, and paid plans cost money. Local mode requires an API key, which should be kept in the client's secret storage rather than a committed file. Sign-in can expire and must be renewed.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open aVenture in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.aventurevc%2Faventure-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

README

aVenture MCP Server

Ask Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, or any MCP client questions about private companies, founders, investors, funding rounds, and news, and get answers with sources. aVenture hosts the server at https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp; you sign in with a free aVenture account (sign up).

Connect by Pasting One Prompt

Paste this into Claude, ChatGPT, Claude Code, or your AI app:

text
Connect the aVenture MCP server for me: URL https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp,transport Streamable HTTP, OAuth sign-in. If you can add it yourself (inClaude Code, run `claude mcp add --scope user --transport http aventure https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp`),do that. Otherwise tell me exactly where to add it in this app. When it's connected and I've signed in, read aVenture's profile for stripe.comto confirm it works. Docs: https://docs.aventure.vc/mcp

Connect by Hand

  1. In Claude, ChatGPT, or Cursor, open the settings for custom connectors (MCP servers).
  2. Add the aVenture server: URL https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp, transport Streamable HTTP.
  3. Sign in to aVenture in the browser window that opens.

Claude Code: run claude mcp add --scope user --transport http aventure https://mcp.aventure.vc/mcp, then /mcp, select aventure, and sign in.

Free vs. Paid

  • Free account: 25 company and 25 person profile reads a month, and 5 plain-English searches and 20 name lookups a day. Create an account.
  • AI Plus, $49/mo: plain-English questions in the API, CLI, and MCP server, including competitor and investor-activity questions, with no daily cap; 500 company and 500 person profile reads, and 30 company and 30 person research requests a month. Get AI Plus.

If Sign-In Fails

  • 401 on a server that worked before: the sign-in expired. Reconnect the server in your client; in Claude Code, run /mcp, select aventure, and sign in.
  • More fixes: MCP troubleshooting.

Ask Your First Question

  • "Read aVenture's profile for ramp.com."
  • "Look up Stripe on aVenture and summarize its funding history."
  • "Who is Patrick Collison, and which companies is he connected to?"
  • "Which company owns ramp.com, and who founded it?"
  • "Find seed-stage climate software companies in Austin."

Plans and Usage

Profile views, web searches, and research requests count toward your plan's monthly allowance. When one runs out, the answer says which limit you reached and how to upgrade. Ask your assistant to list aVenture plans with monthly and annual prices. You can also manage your plan in subscription settings.

Advanced: Run the Server Locally

Run the server yourself when you need it inside your own network. It requires Node.js 24.22.1 or newer within the 24.x release line; Node.js 25 is not supported.

sh
npm install --global @aventurevc/mcp-serveraventure-mcp-server

The server listens at http://localhost:3333/mcp, which only clients on the same machine can reach; a cloud app such as ChatGPT cannot. Create a key in API key settings and have your client send it with every request:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "aventure": {      "type": "http",      "url": "http://localhost:3333/mcp",      "headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer <your-api-key>" }    }  }}

Store the key in your client's secret storage, not in a file you commit. AVENTURE_MCP_PORT and AVENTURE_MCP_PATH change the port and route.
