Overview

AI-generated overview

Hosted Apify MCP server that lets an assistant look up car recalls, MOT failure stats, EU car specs, EU VAT numbers and Cyprus company records.

What you can do
  • Look up US NHTSA recalls, complaints and crash ratings per model year, with a risk score and best/avoid verdict
  • Search EU Safety Gate vehicle recalls by make, model, year, country or risk, optionally only new alerts
  • Retrieve UK DVSA MOT failure rates and common failures by make, model and first-registration year
  • Fetch EU car specs per variant: engine size, kW/hp, WLTP CO2, fuel consumption, electricity use and weight
  • Check Cyprus company records by name or HE number, validate EU VAT numbers in VIES, and look up LEIs via GLEIF
When to use it
Useful when someone is comparing used cars and wants recall, complaint, MOT or specification evidence, or when an assistant needs to verify an EU VAT number, a Cyprus company or an LEI. It suits research and due-diligence questions rather than single-vehicle history checks.
Requirements
Remote Streamable HTTP endpoint at mcp.apify.com; no installation. Authentication is required: either OAuth sign-in to Apify in a browser, or an Apify API token sent as an Authorization Bearer header. An Apify account is needed unless paying per call through Apify's agentic payments.
Before you install
All five tools are pay-per-event, so costs accrue per model year, recall alert, variant, company record or VAT check returned; not-found lookups are free. The Authorization header carries an Apify API token and must be kept secret. Results are informational only: NHTSA data covers US-market vehicles, Safety Gate does not include every manufacturer recall, and 2025 EEA figures are provisional, so safety- or compliance-critical findings should be confirmed with the official source.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Car Helper Tools: Car Recalls, MOT, Car Specs & EU VAT in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.car-helper-tool%2Fcar-helper-tools/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

Car Helper Tools MCP: NHTSA & EU car recalls, UK MOT stats, EU car specs (WLTP CO2), EU VAT (VIES), LEI & Cyprus company check

Five official-open-data tools for AI agents, in one MCP server. Ask your agent about car recalls (US NHTSA and EU Safety Gate), the best and worst model years of a car, UK MOT failure rates, EU car specifications (engine, kW/hp, WLTP CO2, fuel consumption), or Cyprus company status, EU VAT number validation (VIES) and LEI lookup. Built and maintained by Car Helper Tools and served through Apify's hosted MCP server, so there's nothing to install.

Transport: Streamable HTTP. Auth: OAuth (sign in to Apify in your browser) or an Apify API token as Authorization: Bearer <APIFY_TOKEN>. Agents without an Apify account can pay per call through Apify's agentic payments (all five tools are pay-per-event).

Example prompts

  • "Which Ford Focus model years have the most NHTSA recalls and complaints? Which year should I buy?"
  • "Best and worst years to buy a Honda CR-V, with crash ratings."
  • "Are there any EU recalls for a 2018 Toyota Yaris?"
  • "List serious-risk EU Safety Gate car recalls for Volkswagen published this year."
  • "What's the MOT fail rate of a 2015 Ford Fiesta, and what usually fails?"

  • "Validate these EU VAT numbers in VIES: LU20260743, IE6388047V."

Worked cost examples

  • Compare 7 model years of one car with NHTSA data: 7 x $0.01 = $0.07
  • MOT stats for one model over 2012-2018: 7 x $0.01 = $0.07
  • 20 EU recall alerts for one make: 20 x $0.005 = $0.10
  • 30 spec variants of one model: 30 x $0.005 = $0.15
  • 1 Cyprus company and 2 VAT checks: $0.015 + 2 x $0.005 = $0.025

Data, licences and limits

All five tools use official open data only and return no personal data.

  • NHTSA recalls, complaints and NCAP ratings are US government data and cover US-market vehicles.
  • EU Safety Gate alerts are published by the European Commission and don't include every manufacturer recall. Confirm with a dealer using the VIN.
  • DVSA MOT statistics are © Crown copyright and published under the Open Government Licence v3.0.
  • The EEA CO2 monitoring data is published under CC BY 4.0. The 2025 figures are provisional.
  • Cyprus register data comes from data.gov.cy under CC BY 4.0. VIES results are live from the European Commission, and LEI data comes from GLEIF (CC0).

Results are for information only. Check anything safety- or compliance-critical against the official source.
