Overview

AI-generated overview

Remote MCP server that lets an assistant convert XLS spreadsheets to formats like XLSX, CSV or PDF through the XLS.now conversion service.

What you can do
  • Look up available converters and their slugs in the live XLS.now catalog
  • Submit a publicly accessible spreadsheet URL for conversion with a chosen converter, optionally waiting for the result
  • Check the status of a conversion job and retrieve a temporary download link when it completes
  • Read the caller's API credits, usage and rate limits
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to turn legacy XLS files into modern spreadsheet, document or image formats without running conversion software locally, and when the files are reachable at public URLs.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at xls.now over streamable HTTP, with no local package. Requires an XLS.now API key sent in the X-API-Key header. The source spreadsheet must be publicly accessible over the network; private-network URLs and URLs with embedded credentials are rejected.
Before you install
The API key is a secret sent in the X-API-Key header, so keep it out of logs and shared transcripts. Conversions consume API credits, and usage and rate limits are exposed through the usage tool. Submitted files are fetched by a third-party service, so only send spreadsheets you are willing to share with it. Download links are temporary.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open XLS.now MCP Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect X-API-Key credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.chrisyau83%2Fxls-now/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows
