MCP server that exposes Redis API to AI models

Overview

AI-generated overview

Local MCP server that exposes the Redis API to AI assistants, letting them connect to a Redis instance and read or modify its data.

What you can do
  • Connect, disconnect and ping a Redis server
  • Read, write, delete and increment string keys, including multi-key get and set
  • Work with lists, sets, hashes and sorted sets: push, range, add, remove, fetch members and counts
  • Inspect keys: existence, expiry, TTL, type and scan
  • Server-level operations: database size, info, config get and set, and flush database or all databases
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to inspect or edit live Redis data during development or debugging, for example checking cached values, key layouts, TTLs or hash contents, or seeding test data in a local or staging Redis instance.
Requirements
Runs as a local process installed from PyPI (pip install mcp-redis-server) and started via the CLI or Python. Needs a reachable Redis server; connection settings come from the environment variables REDIS_HOST, REDIS_PORT, REDIS_PASSWORD, REDIS_DB and REDIS_SSL.
Before you install
The tools can write and delete data, including redis_del, redis_flushdb and redis_flushall, which can wipe a database or the whole instance. redis_config_set changes server configuration. The optional REDIS_PASSWORD is read from the environment. Point it at a non-production instance and avoid flush operations unless intended.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Mcp Redis Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score

50% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
