Overview

AI-generated overview

DexL Agents is a remote, pay-per-call AI gateway that lets an assistant browse its catalogue, check prices, and run free chat or paid x402 tools.

What you can do
  • Browse the catalogue of paid tools, models and packaged products with their prices
  • List chat models available through the gateway, including the free dexl-free model
  • Get an exact price quote for a paid tool by sending the request without payment and reading the 402 response
  • Run a free-tier chat completion without a wallet, account or payment header
  • Read how payment works: the x402 flow, supported chains and the local signing client
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to reach a single gateway for chat models, speech, web search and crawl, on-chain reads, FX rates and NLP tools, and to try the free tier or price a paid call before committing to a wallet.
Requirements
A remote endpoint at agents.dexl.io over streamable HTTP; no account or API key is needed for the free tools. Paid calls require a funded stablecoin wallet and a local client that signs payments, since the remote server holds no wallet; the README shows a local npx package with DEXL_BASE_URL and an optional DEXL_PRIVATE_KEY.
Before you install
Paid tools spend real USDC on Base, Polygon, Arbitrum or Solana, so a funded wallet is at risk; the README's local setup passes a wallet private key through DEXL_PRIVATE_KEY, which should be kept on your machine and given a small balance. The remote endpoint is limited to free tools. Requests and their bodies are sent to a third-party gateway.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open DexL Agents in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.dexl-io%2Fagents/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

Pay an API with x402 — in about ten lines

x402 is HTTP 402 put to work: a server answers 402 Payment Required with the exact price, the client signs a stablecoin payment and repeats the same request. No account, no API key, no invoice.

These examples call DexL Agents, an x402 gateway (chat models, speech, web search and crawl, on-chain reads, FX rates, NLP tools). Everything here works against any x402 server — only the URL changes.

1. Free: no wallet at all

bash
npm installnpm run free

free.mjs does two things:

  • calls the free tier (model: "dexl-free") — no payment header, no wallet, no account;
  • asks what a paid call would cost by sending it without payment and reading the 402.

Real output:

free answer: HTTP 402 (Payment Required) is a non-standardized status code reserved for future use...web-search costs 0.01 USDC on eip155:8453 (HTTP 402)

2. Paid: one call, one signature

bash
PRIVATE_KEY=0x... npm run paid

The payment is these three lines; after them it is ordinary fetch:

js
const signer = toClientEvmSigner(wallet);const client = new x402Client().register('eip155:8453', new ExactEvmScheme(signer));const fetchWithPay = wrapFetchWithPayment(fetch, client);

Your key stays on your machine — the server only ever sees a signed payment. Settles in USDC on Base, Polygon, Arbitrum or Solana. Error responses are not charged.

The free example above was run as-is. The paid one needs your own funded wallet, so run it yourself with a small balance; it uses the same client our own service uses.

3. Connect an MCP client

Remote (free tools only — a remote server holds no wallet of yours):

https://agents.dexl.io/mcp

Local, with paid tools, because the wallet stays on your machine:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "dexl": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "dexl-agents", "mcp"],      "env": { "DEXL_BASE_URL": "https://agents.dexl.io", "DEXL_PRIVATE_KEY": "<optional>" }    }  }}
