MCPAmpel - MCP Security Scanner
io.github.diemoevePublished by GitHub account diemoevev0.2.2Updated Oct 24, 2026
Scan installed MCP servers for security vulnerabilities with 16 detection engines.
Overview
A local MCP server that scans installed MCP servers, or a GitHub, GitLab, npm or PyPI URL, for security issues and returns trust scores.
- What you can do
- Discover MCP servers configured in Claude Code, Cursor, Windsurf or Gemini CLI and scan them with 16 engines, returning a summary table of trust scores and findings. Scan a single GitHub, GitLab, npm or PyPI URL and get a trust score, engine breakdown and findings. Retrieve detailed results for a specific scan by its ID. Check daily quota usage and remaining scans.
- When to use it
- Useful when you want a quick security check of the MCP servers already configured in your editor, or of a third-party MCP package or repository before installing it.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as a Python package via uvx. Requires an MCPAMPEL_API_KEY environment variable, obtained by registering for a free account; an optional MCPAMPEL_BASE_URL overrides the API endpoint. Network access to the scanning service is needed.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open MCPAmpel - MCP Security Scanner in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
- Tools listed15 pts
Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
