Overview

AI-generated overview

Unofficial MCP server that connects an assistant to your Alpha Progression gym data to analyse training volume, progress and plans, and make targeted plan…

What you can do
  • Read weekly training volume: sets and training days per muscle, per week
  • Review progress: lifts improving or stalled by muscle group, plus one exercise's history over time
  • Inspect workouts: recent sessions, every set of a single workout, and bodyweight or other measurements
  • Look up exercises by name or muscle and fetch any single record
  • Read the current plan with its set and rep targets
  • Edit the plan: set targets, add, swap or remove one exercise per call, with a preview and backup
When to use it
Useful if you log training in Alpha Progression and want an assistant to answer questions about weekly sets per muscle, stalled lifts or exercise history, or to make small, approved changes to your plan.
Requirements
Runs locally as a Python package via uv/uvx. A one-time login with your Alpha Progression email and password stores an access token in a local config file. No environment variables or headers are declared; ALPHA_PROGRESSION_READ_ONLY=1 optionally disables editing.
Before you install
Unofficial and not affiliated with Alpha Progression; use only with your own account. Login credentials are entered once and an access token is stored on disk. Plan editing writes to your account: each call makes one change, previews it and saves only after approval, with a local backup, and changes appear after the app syncs. Repeated failed logins can lock the account.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Alpha Progression Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

Alpha Progression MCP

Connect Claude (or any MCP client) to your Alpha Progression gym data: analyse your training and adjust your plan.

  • "Am I doing enough sets per week for each muscle?"
  • "Which lifts have stalled in the last 3 months?"
  • "Add a hamstring exercise to Day 2 and lower bench to 4 × 6."

Unofficial, not affiliated with Alpha Progression. Use it only with your own account.

Setup

Requires uv.

  1. Log in once. Your email and password are not saved, only an access token (~/.config/alpha-progression-mcp/token.json):
    sh
    uvx alpha-progression-mcp login
  2. Add it to Claude Code:
    sh
    claude mcp add alpha-progression -- uvx alpha-progression-mcp
    Other clients:
    json
    {  "mcpServers": {    "alpha-progression": {      "command": "uvx",      "args": ["alpha-progression-mcp"]    }  }}
  3. Restart your client.

Plan editing makes one targeted change per call, previews it first and only saves after you approve. Workout history is never touched; a backup of the plan is saved to ~/.config/alpha-progression-mcp/backups/ before each change, and it only changes what the free version of the app can (no RIR targets, deloads or periodisation). Changes appear in the app after it syncs. To turn editing off, set ALPHA_PROGRESSION_READ_ONLY=1.

Names can be partial ("bench press", "day 2"); unclear ones return suggestions.

Metrics: working sets exclude warm-ups (lighter sets before the first heavy set) and stretches. Sets per muscle count 1 for the target muscle and 0.5 for its main secondary muscles (fractional counting, Pelland et al. 2024). e1RM uses Epley, weight × (1 + reps / 30), up to 15 reps.

Troubleshooting

  • "Not logged in" / "login has expired": run the login command again.
  • "Too many login attempts": wait a few minutes; Alpha Progression locks login after wrong passwords.
  • Check the connection: uvx alpha-progression-mcp status
  • Log out: delete ~/.config/alpha-progression-mcp/token.json.

Development

sh
uv sync && uv run pytest && uv run ruff check . && uv run ruff format .

The sync protocol is described in docs/api.md. MIT license.

50% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
