Aussie Data Mcp
io.github.dylannnnn111v0.1.0Updated Oct 5, 2026
MCP server that lets Claude query ABS, RBA and Sydney Opal (Commute Pulse) data directly.
Overview
Lets an assistant query Australian economic and transport data from ABS, RBA and Sydney Opal sources without guessing figures.
- What it does
- Provides tools for Australian statistics: CPI by item and capital city, labour force figures by state, the RBA cash rate, lending rates, and AUD exchange rates against 18 currencies plus the TWI. A generic RBA series tool lists and fetches other RBA tables, while ABS tools search dataflows, describe their dimensions, and fetch datasets by SDMX key. A Commute Pulse tool returns Sydney Opal tap patterns such as the Friday gap and return-to-office trends. Responses are compact JSON with units, latest and start values, change over the window, and caveats.
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant needs real Australian economic or Sydney transport series rather than recalled numbers, for example comparing rent or inflation against the cash rate, checking unemployment by state, or looking at office attendance patterns. It suits research, analysis and reporting that depends on official ABS, RBA or TfNSW figures.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio, typically launched with npx from the npm package aussie-data-mcp, or from a local build with node. No API keys or accounts are needed. Network access is required to reach the ABS and RBA sources. Responses are cached for six hours in memory and a temp directory; the cache TTL and directory can be changed with the AUSSIE_DATA_CACHE_TTL_HOURS and AUSSIE_DATA_CACHE_DIR environment variables.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Aussie Data Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
Aussie Data MCP
An MCP server that lets Claude (or any MCP client) query Australian economic and transport data directly: ABS, RBA, and Sydney Opal tap data from Commute Pulse.
Ask things like "how has Sydney rent moved against the cash rate since 2022?" and the model pulls the real series instead of guessing.
Tools
Every tool returns compact JSON: named series with units, the latest value, the start value and the change over the window already worked out, plus notes on caveats. No API keys needed.
Use it with Claude Desktop
Add this to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings > Developer > Edit Config):
Or from a local clone, point it at the build: "command": "node", "args": ["/path/to/aussie-data-mcp/dist/index.js"].
Develop
Responses are cached for 6 hours (memory + temp dir). Override with AUSSIE_DATA_CACHE_TTL_HOURS and AUSSIE_DATA_CACHE_DIR.
Commute Pulse data is a bundled snapshot of that pipeline's outputs. After re-running it, refresh with npm run sync:commute.
