Analyze food photos or text for calories, macros, vitamins, minerals, and allergens.
Overview
Local MCP server that lets an assistant analyze food photos or food names for calories, macros, vitamins, minerals and allergens via TastyAPI.
- What you can do
- Analyze a food image from a public URL and get a full nutritional breakdown
- Look up nutrition data for a food by name or description, no image needed
- Return calories, macros, vitamins, minerals, allergens and dietary flags such as vegan or gluten-free
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to estimate nutrition for meals, recipes or single ingredients, either from a photo link or a text description, and to flag allergens and dietary suitability.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as an npm package (npx nutrients-mcp) on Node.js 18 or newer. Needs a TastyAPI API key supplied in the TASTYAPI_KEY environment variable; the key is obtained from the provider's pricing page. Network access is required for the API calls and for fetching image URLs.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Nutrients Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
