Overview

AI-generated overview

Searches Printables.com 3D-printable models, reads model cards, lists files and returns direct download links for an AI assistant.

What you can do
  • Search models by text with filters for category, price, license, publish date and prints, plus ordering and pagination
  • Read a model's full card: description, tags, category, license, print parameters, images and remix sources
  • List a model's files, including G-code with printer, material and slicing parameters
  • Get direct download URLs for a model's files, valid for 24 hours
  • List categories and licenses to obtain IDs for search filters
  • Read an author's profile and page through their published models
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to find 3D-printable models, compare print settings and licenses, or fetch files for a model you plan to print. It suits hobbyist and maker workflows rather than general web search.
Requirements
Runs as a local stdio process, installed with uv tool install or run directly with uvx, so a Python/uv environment is needed. No account, API key or environment variables are required; it calls the public Printables GraphQL API over the network.
Before you install
Anonymous access only: files of paid or Printables Club models cannot be downloaded, though the models remain visible. The underlying API is undocumented and may change without notice. Download links expire after 24 hours, and the server's tools are read-only.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Printables in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

[MCP Registry] [feodor-ra/printables-mcp MCP server]

An MCP server for Printables.com: lets an AI agent search 3D models, read model cards, list files and get direct download links.

It talks to the public Printables GraphQL API directly: no HTML scraping, no browser, no account. All tools are read-only and return structured results (JSON with an output schema), so agents get exact fields instead of prose.

Installation

bash
uv tool install printables-mcp

Then register the printables-mcp command with your MCP client. Claude Code:

bash
claude mcp add printables -s user -- printables-mcp

Any other client that speaks stdio:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "printables": { "command": "printables-mcp" }  }}

Without installing: uvx printables-mcp.

Tools

ToolWhat it does
search_modelsText search with pagination (limit, offset, total count) and filters: category, price (free / paid), licenses, published within N days, has user prints. Orderings: best match, popular, latest, rating, makes count.
get_modelFull model card: description as Markdown, tags, category path, license, materials, printer, print time, filament weight, images, PDF, remix sources, stats, price.
list_model_filesEvery file group in one request: model files (STL/3MF/STEP…), G-code with printer, material, layer height, nozzle and print time, SLA files, other files, ZIP packs.
get_download_linksDirect download URLs (valid 24 h) for all or selected files, fetched in parallel. Files of paid or club-only models come back with a per-file reason instead of failing the call.
list_categoriesAll categories with their full paths (IDs for the search filter).
list_licensesAll licenses (IDs for the search filter).
get_authorAuthor profile by ID, handle or profile URL.
list_author_modelsAn author's models, cursor-paginated, ordered by newest, oldest, likes, downloads, rating or makes.

Models and authors can be passed as IDs or as printables.com URLs (locale prefixes such as /de/ are fine).

Limitations

  • Anonymous access only: paid and Printables Club models are visible, but their files cannot be downloaded.
  • The API is undocumented and may change without notice; the end-to-end suite (just test-live) checks it against the live service.
