Overview

AI-generated overview

A remote MCP server offering pay-per-call web, domain, GitHub, crypto, stock, weather and public-data research tools, settled in USDC on Base via x402.

What you can do
Fetch and check web pages: reachability, status, title, cleaned text and links, plus multi-URL research briefs with per-source attribution and citations (one free check tool). Vet domains and repositories: RDAP registrar and dates, DNS records, certificate transparency history, GitHub repo snapshots and deeper due-diligence reports. Look up crypto and market data: Base ERC-20 token facts, real-time stock quotes for A-shares, Hong Kong and US symbols, and fiat exchange rates. Query public datasets: recent USGS earthquakes, Open-Meteo current weather, SEC EDGAR full-text filing search and FDA recall reports.
When to use it
Useful when an agent's sandbox cannot reach the open web, or when you want quick due-diligence on a domain, GitHub repo or Base token without wiring up separate APIs. Also handy for occasional stock, currency, weather, earthquake, SEC filing or FDA recall lookups where per-call payment beats a subscription.
Requirements
Remote Streamable HTTP endpoint, or the npm package run locally with Node.js. Paid tools require an x402-capable client and a Base mainnet wallet funded with USDC; the local setup reads the wallet key from the X402_PRIVATE_KEY environment variable. X402_BASE_URL optionally points at another seller. No API keys for the underlying data sources; free_url_check needs no payment.
Before you install
Paid tools spend real USDC on Base mainnet on every call, including retries; repo_diligence and web_brief are priced far higher than the rest, so call them deliberately. The local setup requires handing a wallet private key to the process via X402_PRIVATE_KEY; use a dedicated low-balance wallet. Tool arguments and a signed USDC transfer authorisation leave your machine, and requests go to third-party data sources.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open x402 Tools in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.foxxx009%2Fx402-tools-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

README

x402-tools-mcp

An MCP server that gives any AI agent six research and data tools, paid per call in USDC on Base through x402.

No API keys. No subscription. No monthly minimum. You pay a cent or two when your agent actually calls a tool.

ToolPriceWhat it does
web_fetch$0.01Fetch a URL — status, final URL, title, cleaned text, top 20 links. For agents whose sandbox has no open-web access.
domain_intel$0.02RDAP registrar + creation/expiry dates, DNS records (A/MX/NS/TXT), Certificate Transparency history via crt.sh.
github_repo$0.02Repo facts: stars, forks, open issues, language, licence, last push, README excerpt.
token_intel$0.02ERC-20 facts read from Base mainnet: name, symbol, decimals, total supply, USDC balance.
repo_diligence$2.50Deep repo report — release cadence, contributor spread, issue/PR health, risk summary.
web_brief$3.00Multi-URL consolidated brief with per-source attribution.

Why this exists

Agent sandboxes are frequently firewalled from the open web, and the usual workaround — an API-key-gated scraping service — means a subscription, an account, and a monthly floor you pay whether or not you use it. x402 removes all three: the server answers 402 Payment Required, the client signs a USDC transfer authorisation, and the call proceeds. That is the whole handshake.

Setup

1. Fund a wallet. Any Base wallet with a few dollars of USDC. It needs no ETH — gas is paid by the settlement facilitator.

2. Export the key.

bash
export X402_PRIVATE_KEY=0x<private key of that wallet>

3. Register the server with your MCP client:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "x402-tools": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "x402-tools-mcp"],      "env": {        "X402_PRIVATE_KEY": "0x..."      }    }  }}

Or run it locally:

bash
git clone https://github.com/foxxx009/x402-tools-mcpcd x402-tools-mcp && npm installX402_PRIVATE_KEY=0x... node index.js

Environment variables

VariableRequiredDefault
X402_PRIVATE_KEYyes—
X402_BASE_URLnohttps://fitze-x402-seller.app.workbuddy.host

X402_BASE_URL lets you point the same server at your own x402 seller.

What leaves your machine

Only two things: the tool arguments, and an EIP-3009 signature authorising a USDC transfer for the quoted amount. The private key never leaves the process. Signing is local; settlement happens on Base.

Notes

  • Payments are USDC on Base mainnet. A testnet wallet will not work.
  • Each call is charged on retry with X-PAYMENT; the 402 response always states the exact amount before you pay anything.
  • repo_diligence and web_brief are priced higher because they do real multi-request work. Call them deliberately.

Remote MCP (zero install)

Prefer not to run anything locally? The same service is exposed as a remote Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint:

https://fitze-x402-seller.app.workbuddy.host/mcp

Add it to any MCP client (Claude Desktop, Cursor, etc.) as a remote server URL. free_url_check runs without payment; paid tools answer HTTP 402 with x402 payment requirements and settle in USDC on Base when an x402-capable client retries. Listed in the official MCP Registry as io.github.foxxx009/x402-tools-mcp.

ParametersurlrequiredmaxChars

domain_intel

$0.005 per call — Domain due-diligence bundle: RDAP registrar + creation/expiry dates + status, DNS records (A/MX/NS/TXT), and Certificate Transparency history via crt.sh. Use to vet a domain before trusting or linking to it.

Parametersdomainrequired

github_repo

$0.005 per call — GitHub repo snapshot: stars, forks, open-issue count, watchers, primary language, SPDX license, created/pushed dates and latest release tag. Use to triage a repo before contributing or depending on it.
