Chewable Foodie
io.github.ggi3201v1.2.2Updated Oct 5, 2026
Your recipes, family meal plan and shopping list from Foodie, in ChatGPT, Claude and Codex.
Overview
Lets an assistant read and update your Foodie recipes, family meal plan and shared shopping list from ChatGPT, Claude or Codex.
- What it does
- Connects your assistant to a Foodie account so it can plan dinners from your saved recipes, suggest meals from ingredients you have, save new recipes from links, and walk through cooking steps. It can add a recipe to the shared shopping list as one linked entry or expand its ingredients into separate items, and answer questions about what was eaten recently. Changes appear immediately in the Foodie app for everyone in the family.
- When to use it
- Useful if you already keep recipes, a family meal plan and a shared shopping list in Foodie and want to plan, shop and cook through an assistant instead of the app. Less useful if you do not use Foodie or do not want an assistant changing a shared household list.
- Requirements
- A Foodie account, signed in once in the Foodie app on iPhone, then signing in with the same Apple ID when the assistant asks to connect. The server is a remote endpoint; Claude and Codex can install it as a plugin, while claude.ai, the Claude desktop app and ChatGPT connect to the server URL with OAuth (ChatGPT needs a paid plan and developer mode).
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Chewable Foodie in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Other MCP clients
Add this to your client's mcpServers config.

Chewable Foodie for Codex, Claude and ChatGPT
Use your Foodie recipes, your family's meal plan and your shared shopping list from your AI assistant. Everything you change shows up at once in the Foodie app, for everyone in your family.
Ask things like:
- "Plan dinners for this week from my Foodie recipes"
- "I have eggs, spinach and feta. What can I make?"
- "Add my lasagne to the shopping list as one recipe"
- "Add the ingredients for my lasagne as separate shopping items"
- "Save this recipe to Foodie: https://…" (recipe sites, Instagram, TikTok, YouTube)
- "Walk me through the carbonara, step by step"
- "What did we eat last week?"
Before you start: you need a Foodie account. Sign in once in the Foodie app on iPhone. When the assistant asks you to connect Foodie, sign in with the same Apple ID.
Codex
In the Codex app, or the Codex tab of the ChatGPT desktop app:
- Open Plugins → Add → Add a marketplace.
- Paste
https://github.com/chewablefit/foodie-pluginas the source. Leave Git ref and Sparse paths empty. - Install Chewable Foodie and sign in with Apple.
In Codex CLI, /plugins opens the same plugin browser.
Claude
Claude Code:
From your shell, the same is claude plugin marketplace add chewablefit/foodie-plugin
and claude plugin install chewable-foodie@chewable. Sign in with Apple when
Claude asks to connect the Foodie server.
claude.ai and the Claude desktop app: Settings → Connectors → Add custom
connector. Paste https://foodieapi.chewable.fit/mcp and sign in with Apple.
ChatGPT
A plugin from this repo does not reach ordinary ChatGPT chats yet; that comes with the listing in ChatGPT's plugin directory. Until then, connect the server yourself (needs a paid plan):
- Settings → Security and login → turn on Developer mode.
- Open Plugins, press +, and enter
https://foodieapi.chewable.fit/mcpwith OAuth. Sign in with Apple.
What works where
Clients that connect the server without the plugin get the same rules in a shorter form, from the server's own instructions.
Shopping for a recipe
Adding a Foodie recipe puts one entry on the shopping list, linked to the
recipe, with its name and servings. Ask for separate ingredients when you
want individual shopping items instead. The assistant uses
add_recipe_to_shopping_list with recipeId for both: its default adds the
linked recipe; expandIngredients: true adds the ingredients separately.
add_to_shopping_list is for groceries and selected ingredients, not a
replacement for a linked recipe entry.
What's inside
There is one skill for both. When you change it, bump version in both
plugin.json files so installed copies update.
