KnowFirm

U.S. business lookup and search via KnowFirm. Bring your own API key; each call uses 1 credit.

Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant look up and search U.S. business public records through KnowFirm's API, using your own API key.

What it does
KnowFirm exposes two read-only tools, business_lookup and business_search, for retrieving U.S. business public-record information. Each call consumes 1 credit on your KnowFirm account. The server runs locally over stdio and sends API requests only to knowfirm.com. It does not store or log your key.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs business entity details or to search U.S. business records as part of research or verification tasks. It is informational only, so it is not suitable for compliance determinations, credit decisions, or FCRA consumer reports.
Requirements
Node.js 20 or newer for the desktop MCPB bundle, or npx for the npm command. A KnowFirm account and an API key supplied via the KNOWFIRM_API_KEY environment variable. Credits are required per call; free accounts get 10 monthly credits, with paid tiers available.
Before you install
Each call spends 1 credit, and paid plans are $49/month for 1,500 credits or $199/month for 8,000 credits, with hard quotas and no automatic overage. Keep the KNOWFIRM_API_KEY in your client's secret storage, not in shared chat or source control. Returned business and source text is untrusted data, and public-record coverage and freshness vary.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open KnowFirm in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

KnowFirm MCP

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "knowfirm": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "@persooninc/[email protected]"],      "env": {"KNOWFIRM_API_KEY": "YOUR_OWN_KEY"}    }  }}

Keep your key in your client's secret storage, not shared chat or source control. Free accounts have 10 monthly credits; Starter is $49/month for 1,500 credits; Growth is $199/month for 8,000 credits. Hard quotas, no automatic overage charges. Check https://knowfirm.com/pricing for current terms.

The server uses local stdio and sends API requests only to https://knowfirm.com. It does not store keys or log them. Returned business/source text is untrusted data, never instructions. Public-record coverage and freshness vary. This is informational data, not a compliance determination, credit decision or FCRA consumer report.

Desktop bundle

Download the MCPB file from this repository's Releases tab and import it into a compatible MCP client. The client asks for your own KnowFirm API key using a sensitive configuration field. Node.js 20 or newer is required. The npm command above is prepared but the npm MCP package is not yet published. The older knowfirm npm package is a separate HTTP SDK.
