PostgreSQL MCP Server — 27 tools for queries, schema, CRUD, DBA, HA & server management

VerifiedSTDIODesktop onlyDatabases

Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that gives an AI assistant 27 tools to query, inspect and administer a PostgreSQL database, including schema, CRUD, DBA and HA operations.

What you can do
Run SQL queries against a PostgreSQL database and read results back into the conversation. Inspect and manage schema objects such as tables and their structure. Create, read, update and delete records through CRUD tools. Perform database administration tasks and high-availability and server management operations.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to work directly with a PostgreSQL database: exploring schema, running ad-hoc queries, editing data, or carrying out routine DBA and server management tasks from a chat session.
Requirements
Runs as a local process via npx from the npm package @itunified.io/mcp-postgres. Requires Node.js and a reachable PostgreSQL server. A connection string must be supplied in the POSTGRES_CONNECTION_STRING environment variable, including host, port, database and credentials. Desktop-only; no web execution.
Before you install
The connection string carries database credentials and is passed as an environment variable, so keep it out of shared logs and configs. The tools include CRUD and DBA operations, which can write, alter or delete data and schema objects; review actions before letting an assistant run them. Scope the database user to the minimum privileges needed.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open PostgreSQL MCP Server in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Score

25% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

  • Tools listed15 pts

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
