Let an AI agent buy gift cards with USDC over x402, within limits the wallet owner sets.
Overview
AI-generated overview
Lets an AI assistant search gift cards, check prices and order status, and pay for them in USDC over x402 within owner-set limits.
- What it does
- This local MCP server connects an assistant to the SpendTheBits gift card service. It supports searching available gift cards, checking prices, and checking order status, and it can complete a purchase by signing a USDC payment over x402. Spending is bounded by a per-payment cap the wallet owner configures, and order claim tokens can optionally be persisted to a file so orders survive restarts.
- When to use it
- Use it when you want an assistant to browse and buy gift cards on your behalf and you are comfortable letting it sign USDC payments up to a limit you set. Search, price and status checks work without any signing key, so it is also usable read-only.
- Requirements
- Runs locally as an npm package over stdio on a desktop machine. Buying requires the agent key from the SpendTheBits app's Agents screen, supplied as the STB_AGENT_PRIVATE_KEY environment variable, plus STB_MAX_USDC_PER_PAYMENT to cap each payment. STB_ORDERS_FILE is optional for persisting order claim tokens. Network access to the SpendTheBits service is needed.
Before you install
STB_AGENT_PRIVATE_KEY is a signing key that authorizes real USDC payments; it must never be the wallet recovery phrase. Purchases spend real funds, so set STB_MAX_USDC_PER_PAYMENT carefully. The optional STB_ORDERS_FILE stores order claim tokens on disk, which should be protected. Search, price and status work without the key, so the key is only needed for buying.
