Drive AirSCP, the Mac app for SCP/SFTP file transfers, SSH servers and Windows Remote Desktop

Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant drive the AirSCP Mac app for SCP/SFTP transfers, SSH sessions and Windows Remote Desktop.

What it does
AirSCP is a native macOS app for SCP/SFTP file transfer, SSH servers and Windows Remote Desktop, and this MCP server exposes it to AI agents when the user turns that on. Through the app, an assistant can work with two-pane local and remote browsing, drag-to-copy transfers including server-to-server, a background transfer queue with resume and speed limits, folder streaming with compression and exclusion patterns, folder synchronization with a preview, and server-side file search. It also covers SSH access methods such as keys, passwords, 2FA codes, jump hosts and HTTP proxies, plus Linux server monitoring, tunnels, command and snippet execution, and key generation and import/export.
When to use it
Worth adding when an assistant should move or synchronize files between a Mac and remote servers, run SSH commands, or otherwise operate AirSCP's transfer and server features on the user's behalf. It suits users who already rely on AirSCP for SCP/SFTP and SSH work and want an agent to drive those tasks.
Requirements
macOS 13.1 or later, with the AirSCP app installed (for example via the Homebrew cask or the release download). The server runs as a local stdio process launched from the app binary, and the user must enable the setting that allows AI agents to control AirSCP. No account, API key or environment variable is declared.
Before you install
The server gives an assistant control over file transfers, SSH sessions, remote commands and Windows Remote Desktop, so it can copy, change or delete files and run commands on remote servers; the README notes the user sees every action. The app is not notarized in version 1.0.0, so macOS blocks the first launch until the user approves it in Privacy & Security. Passwords are not exposed to agents, but SSH keys and credentials still live in the app.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open AirSCP in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

  • Two panes: your Mac on the left, a server on the right. Drag to copy, also server to server.
  • A transfer queue that runs in the background, resumes after a dropped connection, and has a speed limit.
  • Folders as one fast stream, with compression and "leave out" patterns (node_modules, *.log).
  • Synchronize two folders with a preview first; Find Files on a server by name or pattern.
  • Every way in: keys, passwords, 2FA codes, jump hosts, HTTP proxies. Your ~/.ssh/config just works.
  • Remote Desktop for Windows built in, with the clipboard and files both ways.
  • Monitor a Linux server (CPU, memory, disks, processes), open tunnels, run commands and snippets.
  • Keys: make any key type, put it on a server, import and export PuTTY .ppk.
  • AI agents can drive it over MCP when you allow it, and they never see your passwords.
  • Uses the ssh, scp and sftp built into macOS, shows every command it runs. No account. macOS 13.1+.

Install

sh
brew install --cask kleash/tap/airscp

Or download the zip from Releases. The first time you open AirSCP, macOS says it can't check the app for malware (1.0.0 isn't notarized yet): click Done, then System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Open Anyway. On macOS 14 or earlier, right-click AirSCP ▸ Open works too. Every file has its SHA-256, and the ones GitHub built have signed build provenance: check a download.

Use it from AI agents

  1. Turn on Settings ▸ Allow AI agents to control AirSCP, then claude mcp add airscp -- /Applications/AirSCP.app/Contents/MacOS/AirSCP --mcp
  2. Or install the Claude Code plugin: /plugin marketplace add kleash/airscp, then /plugin install airscp@airscp
  3. Docs for agents: llms.txt · AGENTS.md
