10 tools on official open data: EU VAT/LEI, TED tenders, PubMed, trials, registries, weather.
Overview
Ten tools that pull facts from official open data sources — EU company verification, tenders, PubMed, clinical trials, statistics, weather and more.
- What you can do
- Verify EU companies via VIES and GLEIF, and look up French and Nordic company registries
- Search scholarly literature through Crossref, arXiv and optionally OpenAlex, and query PubMed
- Look up EU tender notices from TED and clinical trials from ClinicalTrials.gov
- Fetch Danish statistics tables and weather forecasts with geocoding
- Decode VINs and check vehicle recalls through NHTSA
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant needs verifiable public-record facts rather than model guesses: checking a company's VAT or LEI status, finding tenders, papers, trials, official statistics, vehicle recalls or forecasts.
- Requirements
- The hosted endpoint at mcp.apify.com requires an Apify API token sent as an Authorization bearer header and is billed per event. The open-source local version runs over stdio with Node.js (npm ci, node src/index.js) or Docker and needs no Apify token; optional OPENALEX_API_KEY and NCBI_API_KEY enable OpenAlex and higher PubMed rate limits. Network access to the official source APIs is required.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Open Data Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.
Use with an agent
Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.
Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.markatdataandbeyond%2Fopen-data-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.Other MCP clients
Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.

open-data-mcp
[markatdataandbeyond/open-data-mcp MCP server] [Listed on mcpservers.org]
Ten tools I built to get facts from official open data, not guesses. This repository is an open-source MCP server (stdio). Each tool calls the official source API directly from your machine — no Apify token required for the local server.
Optional env keys (never commit them):
OPENALEX_API_KEY— enables OpenAlex in scholar-search (free key from openalex.org)NCBI_API_KEY— higher PubMed rate limits (free from NCBI)

Live output (2026-10-31, Europe/Copenhagen): DK24256790 → NOVO NORDISK A/S, VIES valid=true, LEI 549300DAQ1CVT6CXN342. No API key required for this call.
Tools
Run locally
Point your MCP client at the stdio command node /path/to/open-data-mcp/src/index.js (or the Docker image built from the Dockerfile in this repo). tools/list works with no environment variables.
Docker:
Hosted version
The same ten tools are also available as pay-per-event Apify Actors if you want a hosted endpoint instead of running the server yourself:
Hosted MCP URL (requires your Apify token):
Client config examples for the hosted path: examples/cursor.json, examples/claude-desktop.json, examples/vscode.json.
Demo
Short terminal recordings of the local stdio server calling official open data APIs. No API keys required for these demos.
Replay a cast with asciinema: asciinema play assets/demo/eu-company-verify.cast. Re-record with bash scripts/record-local-demos.sh.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
