Web access for AI agents: URL to Markdown, link metadata, screenshots, links and images of any URL.

Overview

AI-generated overview

JsonLink is a local MCP server that gives an assistant web access: converting pages to Markdown, extracting metadata, links and images, and taking screenshots.

What you can do
Read a web page's main content as clean Markdown, including JavaScript-heavy pages loaded in a real browser and retried through a proxy when blocked. Extract a URL's title, description, preview images, favicon and site name. Capture screenshots in desktop, mobile, tablet, full-page or single-element modes, with ads, trackers and cookie banners hidden and optional dark mode. List every link on a page with anchor text, follow/nofollow and internal/external flags. List every image on a page with format, dimensions and file size.
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to read articles, docs or blog posts as text, summarize or tabulate metadata for a batch of links, audit a page's links or images, or visually check a page or section on different viewports.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio via npx (Node.js required) or as a remote HTTP server. Requires a JsonLink account and API key supplied in the JSONLINK_API_KEY environment variable (or a Bearer token for HTTP mode). Network access to the JsonLink API is needed; JSONLINK_API_URL can override the base URL.
Before you install
Every tool call spends credits from your JsonLink plan (1 per page, 2 per screenshot); the free plan includes 100 credits monthly and paid plans start at $15/month. The API key is a secret passed in JSONLINK_API_KEY. Page URLs and content are sent to the third-party JsonLink service, which fetches them through its own browser and proxy.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open JsonLink in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

README

JsonLink MCP Server

Give your AI agent the web. The JsonLink MCP server lets Claude, Cursor, VS Code and any MCP client read web pages as Markdown, get link metadata, take screenshots and list the links and images on any URL.

  • Reads JavaScript-heavy pages — pages are loaded in a real browser when needed.
  • Gets past blocks — requests are retried through a proxy when a site blocks them.
  • Failed requests are free — timeouts and pages that can't load cost no credits.

Get an API key

Create a free account — the free plan includes 100 credits every month, no credit card. Copy your key from the dashboard.

Setup

Replace YOUR_API_KEY with your JsonLink key.

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add jsonlink -e JSONLINK_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY -- npx -y jsonlink-mcp

Claude Desktop

Add this to claude_desktop_config.json (Settings → Developer → Edit Config):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "jsonlink": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }    }  }}

Cursor

Add this to ~/.cursor/mcp.json (or .cursor/mcp.json in a project):

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "jsonlink": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }    }  }}

VS Code

Add this to .vscode/mcp.json:

json
{  "servers": {    "jsonlink": {      "command": "npx",      "args": ["-y", "jsonlink-mcp"],      "env": { "JSONLINK_API_KEY": "YOUR_API_KEY" }    }  }}

Windsurf and other clients

Any client that runs stdio MCP servers works the same way: command npx, arguments -y jsonlink-mcp, environment variable JSONLINK_API_KEY.

Example prompts

  • "Read https://example.com/blog/post and summarize it in five bullet points."
  • "Take a mobile screenshot of my landing page and tell me what looks broken."
  • "Screenshot just the pricing section of stripe.com in dark mode."
  • "Get the title and description of these 10 links and make a table."
  • "List the external links on this page that are nofollow."

Configuration

VariableDescription
JSONLINK_API_KEYYour JsonLink API key (required).
JSONLINK_API_URLAPI base URL. Defaults to https://jsonlink.io.

Pricing

Every tool call uses credits from your JsonLink plan: 1 credit per page, 2 per screenshot. Plans start at $15/month for 50,000 credits — see pricing. Credits and rate limits are the same as the REST API.

Development

bash
npm installnpm run buildJSONLINK_API_KEY=YOUR_API_KEY node dist/index.js

Run it as a remote (Streamable HTTP) server with node dist/index.js --http --port 3100; clients send their key as Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY.

50% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
