arXiv: 2.4M+ preprints - search, fetch by id, browse authors, latest per category - keyless.
Overview
Lets an assistant search arXiv for academic papers by keyword, author, or title.
- What you can do
- This MCP server exposes arXiv paper search to an assistant. According to the registry description, it supports searching academic papers by keyword, author, or title. It runs locally over stdio as an npm package. No further tools are listed in the manifest.
- When to use it
- Useful when you want an assistant to look up academic literature on arXiv during a conversation, for example to find papers by a topic, an author, or a title. It is a narrow search tool rather than a full research or citation manager.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local process over stdio, installed from the npm package arxiv-mcp, so a Node.js runtime is needed. The registry description states no key is required, and the manifest declares no environment variables, headers, or authentication. Network access is needed to reach arXiv.
Installation

Score
25% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
