ISBNdb books: lookup by ISBN, search, batch lookup. Needs API key.

Overview

AI-generated overview

Lets an assistant look up book metadata by ISBN, run book searches, and resolve ISBNs in batches through the ISBNdb service.

What you can do
This local MCP server exposes ISBNdb book data to an assistant. It supports looking up a single book by ISBN, searching the ISBNdb catalog, and performing batch ISBN lookups. Results come from the ISBNdb service rather than from any local database.
When to use it
Add it when an assistant needs to resolve ISBNs to book details, verify bibliographic records, or search a book catalog as part of a workflow. It is not useful if you have no ISBNdb access or do not work with book data.
Requirements
Runs as a local process on the user's machine, installed from the npm package isbndb-mcp over stdio. An ISBNdb API key is required, and network access to the ISBNdb service is needed. The manifest declares no environment variables or headers, so the key must be supplied by whatever configuration the package expects.
Before you install
The server needs an ISBNdb API key, which is a credential and should be stored and shared carefully. Lookups and searches send ISBNs and search terms to the third-party ISBNdb service. The manifest lists no tools, so review the package before installing to confirm what it actually calls.

25% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
