Overview

AI-generated overview

Local MCP server that gives an assistant NOAA CO-OPS tide predictions, observed water levels and station details for coastal planning.

What you can do
  • Look up NOAA tide stations, optionally filtered by state, and read details for a single gauge
  • Fetch high, low or hourly tide predictions for a station and date range
  • Retrieve observed water levels for a station over a short date range
  • Summarize the highest, lowest and total tide range for a date window
When to use it
Useful when planning coastal activities such as fishing, kayaking, tidepool trips or photography, or when checking flood awareness and whether a tide window is worth investigating.
Requirements
Runs as a local Node.js process installed from the npm package and started over stdio. Uses the public NOAA CO-OPS API, which needs no key or account. Dates must be in YYYY-MM-DD format and stations are NOAA station identifiers; requests time out after 20 seconds.
Before you install
Read-only: it does not write files and contacts only NOAA, so no credentials are requested. Predictions and observations come from a third-party public API and may be unavailable or delayed; do not rely on them alone for safety-critical navigation or flood decisions.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Tides Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

README

tides-mcp

A small MCP server for coastal planning with NOAA CO-OPS tide data. It is useful for fishing, kayaking, tidepool trips, photography, flood awareness, and checking whether a tide window is worth investigating.

Tools

  • get_tide_predictions: high and low predictions or hourly predictions for a station and date range.
  • get_water_levels: observed water levels for a station and date range.

The server uses the public NOAA CO-OPS API and needs no key. Dates use YYYY-MM-DD; station ids are NOAA station identifiers such as 9414290. Requests time out after 20 seconds.

Run

bash
npm installnpm run buildnode dist/index.js

The server uses stdio MCP transport and does not write files or contact any service other than NOAA.
