Use this MCP server to VNDB, the Visual Novel Database. Search VNs, characters, releases, tags,...
Overview
Queries the Visual Novel Database (VNDB) so an assistant can search visual novels, characters and releases and pull full details.
- What you can do
- Search visual novels by keyword, sorted by rating, popularity, release date or title
- Fetch a visual novel's full details: description, tags, developers and platforms
- Find characters by name or trait
- List every release of a visual novel with platforms, languages and catalogs
- When to use it
- Useful when someone asks about visual novels, characters or release availability and wants answers grounded in VNDB data rather than general knowledge, for example finding top-rated titles in a genre or checking whether a title had a console release.
- Requirements
- Runs as a local process via the npm package @mrfentmen/vndb-mcp over stdio; the README's run steps require Node.js and a build step. No authentication, API key or environment variables are declared. Network access to the VNDB API v2 is needed.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Vndb Mcp in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

40% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.

Answer tools/list without a credential, or ship a package that starts in a sandbox without one.
