ETF quotes, performance and comparisons, plus every holding and fund overlap from SEC N-PORT.
Overview
A local MCP server that lets an assistant research US ETFs: quotes, expense ratios, performance, comparisons, full SEC holdings and fund overlap.
- What you can do
- Search ETFs by keyword or theme and find similar alternatives to a ticker. Retrieve quotes, price and total return over several periods, plus fund summaries such as expense ratio, AUM, NAV and yield. Compare two to five ETFs side by side. List top-10 holdings from Yahoo or every holding from the fund's latest SEC N-PORT filing, with concentration and asset/country mix. Measure weighted stock overlap between two ETFs to judge whether holding both diversifies.
- When to use it
- Useful when comparing ETFs for a portfolio, checking what a fund actually holds, or judging whether two funds duplicate each other. Good for research and education questions about US-listed funds rather than trading.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio, typically launched with npx, so Node.js is needed. No account or API key. The full-holdings and overlap tools require the SEC_USER_AGENT environment variable set to your name and email; other tools work without it. Network access to Yahoo Finance and sec.gov.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open ETF Research in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.
- Auth declared10 pts
Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
