Figma Mcp Rust
io.github.nntoanv0.1.0Updated Oct 2, 2026
Figma MCP server in Rust: plugin bridge, no API token, no rate limits, 73 tools.
Overview
Lets an assistant read and modify live Figma designs through a Figma plugin bridge, with 73 tools and no Figma API token.
- What it does
- A local MCP server that connects to a Figma plugin running in Figma Desktop and exposes 73 tools for reading and writing design files. Read tools cover the page tree, nodes, selection, styles, variables, components, fonts, annotations, and prototype reactions. Write tools create and modify frames, text, shapes, components, styles, variables, pages, and prototype reactions, and can delete nodes, styles, variables, and pages. Export tools produce screenshots, PDFs, and design tokens as JSON or CSS, and built-in prompts suggest design workflows.
- When to use it
- Useful when an assistant should inspect or edit a Figma file directly, for example turning text into designs, generating design tokens, bulk-renaming layers, or auditing styles. It suits users who want to avoid Figma REST API call limits, since it goes through the plugin bridge instead.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio, installed with npx from the npm package @nntoan/figma-mcp-rust; Node.js is needed. The Figma Desktop app must be running with the bundled plugin imported from its manifest and active in an open file. No Figma API token or environment variables are declared.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Figma Mcp Rust in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
figma-mcp-rust
A high-performance Rust port of vkhanhqui/figma-mcp-go. All credit for the original design, the Figma plugin bridge, and the tool catalogue goes to @vkhanhqui. This repo migrates that same MCP server to Rust with structured logging, race-free request correlation, and a declarative tool table; see "What changed in the Rust rewrite" below.
Figma MCP: Free, No Rate Limits
[npm version] [MCP Registry] [License: MIT] [GitHub stars]
Open-source Figma MCP server with full read/write access via plugin. No REST API, no rate limits. Turn text into designs and designs into real code. Works with Cursor, Claude, GitHub Copilot, and any MCP-compatible AI tool.
Highlights
- No Figma API token required
- No rate limits, free plan friendly
- Read and Write live Figma data via plugin bridge, 73 tools in total
- Full design automation: styles, variables, components, prototypes, and content
- Design strategies built in as MCP prompts, plus matching Claude Code skills
Why this exists
Most Figma MCP servers rely on the Figma REST API.
That sounds fine until you hit this:
If you're experimenting with AI tools, you'll burn through that in minutes.
I didn't have enough money to pay for higher limits. So I built something that doesn't use the API at all.
Installation & Setup
Install via npx, no build step required.
1. Configure your AI tool
Claude Code CLI
Claude Code plugin marketplace
Installing the plugin also adds 13 skills covering the workflows below, from reading designs to generating tokens and troubleshooting the bridge.
Codex CLI
.mcp.json (Claude and other MCP-compatible tools)
.vscode/mcp.json (Cursor / VS Code / GitHub Copilot)
2. Install the Figma plugin
- In Figma Desktop: Plugins → Development → Import plugin from manifest
- Select
manifest.jsonfrom the plugin.zip - Run the plugin inside any Figma file

MCP Prompts
Each prompt is also available as a Claude Code skill when the server is installed through the plugin marketplace, alongside a bridge-troubleshooting skill for connection issues.

What changed in the Rust rewrite
- Memory-safe websocket bridge: request/response correlation uses
tokio::sync::oneshotinstead of Go channels guarded bysync.Once, removing the send-on-closed-channel race. - Declarative tool table: all 73 tool registrations live in a single static array
(
src/tools/definitions.rs) instead of ~700 lines of repetitive Go handlers. New tools are added by appending one entry plus an optional JSON Schema builder. - Structured logging via
tracing: every component emits per-target events (bridge, leader, follower, election, node) at adjustable levels. SetFIGMA_MCP_LOG=debugfor verbose output. thiserror-based error types instead of formatted strings, so callers can match on specific failure modes (NotConnected,Timeout, etc.).- Pure-Rust PDF merging via
lopdf, no external CLI dependency. - First-class CLI via
clapwith derived help text and validation.
