Overview

AI-generated overview

Searches the OpenGit index of agent-ready open source repos by task, interface and ecosystem, with details, trending lists and x402 tipping links.

What you can do
  • Search and rank open source repos by task, category, interface, ecosystem and OG score
  • Read one repo's details: description, interfaces, stars, OG score, license, links and payout address
  • Browse the index by category, ecosystem and featured builders
  • See fastest-rising repos by stars gained this week
  • Get an x402 payment link to tip a claimed repo's maintainer
When to use it
Useful when an assistant needs to find an existing MCP server, CLI, SDK or other tool for a task, compare candidates by how an agent can call them, or look up trending and featured projects in the Solana, Base and Robinhood Chain ecosystems.
Requirements
Either a remote Streamable HTTP endpoint at opengit.cc/mcp, or the npm package opengit-mcp run locally with npx, which needs Node.js 18.17 or later. Optional environment variables OPENGIT_MCP_URL and OPENGIT_TIMEOUT_MS. No account or API key is declared. Tipping requires an x402 client or wallet.
Before you install
tip_repo produces a payment link that spends real funds (USDG on Robinhood Chain, USDC on Base or Solana) sent directly to a maintainer's wallet address; nothing is held by the service, so payments are not reversible. The local package forwards tool calls to the hosted server, so queries leave your machine, though the README says project files are not sent.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open OpenGit in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.opengitteam%2Fopengit-mcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

opengit-mcp

MCP server for OpenGit, the index of open source that agents can use.
Let your agent find the right tool for a task, by what it does, how it can be called and its OG score.

[npm] [MIT] [OpenGit]

Quick start

Claude Code

bash
claude mcp add opengit -- npx -y opengit-mcp

Cursor

~/.cursor/mcp.json

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "opengit": { "command": "npx", "args": ["-y", "opengit-mcp"] }  }}

Codex

~/.codex/config.toml

toml
[mcp_servers.opengit]command = "npx"args = ["-y", "opengit-mcp"]

Claude Desktop, Windsurf and other MCP clients

Add a stdio server with command npx and args ["-y", "opengit-mcp"].

Clients that support Streamable HTTP can skip the package and connect straight to:

interface is one of MCP, CLI, Skill, Plugin, SDK, API, App, Harness, Library. ecosystem is one of solana, base, robinhood-chain.

The tools come from the hosted server, so new ones show up without updating this package.

Try asking your agent:

Find me an MCP I can use to decompile an Android APK.

What are the top security audit tools for coding agents right now?

Which agent kits and MCPs are there for Solana?

Who are the featured builders on Base, and what do they ship?

Tipping with x402

Claimed repos (those with an opengit.json payout address) can be tipped by agents. tip_repo returns a link such as https://opengit.cc/pay/<owner>/<repo>?amount=1, which answers 402 Payment Required with options on Robinhood Chain (USDG), Base (USDC) and Solana (USDC). Pay it with any x402 client or agent wallet: the payment settles straight to the maintainer, and OpenGit holds nothing.

How it works

opengit-mcp is a small stdio bridge with no dependencies. It forwards each MCP message to the hosted OpenGit server at https://opengit.cc/mcp and writes the replies back, so the tools always match the live index. Nothing about your project or files is sent; only the tool calls your agent makes.

Requires Node.js 18.17 or later.

What is OpenGit?

OpenGit lists, rates and surfaces open source for AI agents (4,700+ repos and growing). A collector indexes agent-ready repos from GitHub every 15 minutes, and every repo gets an OG score from how an agent can call it and how fast it is moving. Repos are grouped by category and by ecosystem (Solana, Base, Robinhood Chain), with crypto repos checked for bots, drainers and fake copies before they are listed. Maintainers claim their repo by adding an opengit.json with their wallet (opengit.cc/claim), and then people and agents can tip them directly.

search_repos

Find agent-ready open source repos for a task. Returns repos ranked by match, then OG score.

get_repo

Details for one repo: description, interfaces, stars, OG score, links, and the maintainer's payout address if the repo is claimed (from its opengit.json).

Parametersnamerequiredownerrequired

list_categories

The categories in the OpenGit index, with repo counts.

Takes no parameters.

list_ecosystems

Chains and platforms in the OpenGit index (Solana, Base, Robinhood Chain), with repo counts.

Takes no parameters.

tip_repo

Get an x402 link that tips a claimed repo's maintainer. Request the link with any x402 client or wallet: it answers 402 Payment Required with options on Robinhood Chain (USDG), Base (USDC) and Solana (USDC), and payment goes straight to the maintainer's address from the repo's opengit.json. OpenGit takes nothing. Use it to tip the open source tools you rely on.

list_builders

Featured builders OpenGit highlights (for example Shaw, creator of elizaOS), the chains they build on and the repos they ship.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
