Search, read, send, and manage email via macOS Mail.app across all configured accounts.
Overview
Local MCP server that lets an assistant search, read, send and manage email through macOS Mail.app across all configured accounts.
- What you can do
- Search and read mail: filter messages via Mail's Envelope Index, read full bodies, list accounts, mailboxes, recent messages and senders.
- Compose and reply: send new email from a configured account or reply to an existing message.
- Organize messages: set read and flagged status, move messages between mailboxes, trash them, bulk mark as read, or empty a mailbox.
- Manage mailboxes and subscriptions: create folders and extract unsubscribe links from a message.
- When to use it
- Useful when you work on a Mac with Mail.app set up and want an assistant to triage, search, summarize or draft and send mail across your accounts without copying messages elsewhere.
- Requirements
- macOS with Mail.app and at least one configured account; Node.js 20+; a stdio MCP host such as Claude Desktop. The host app needs Full Disk Access and Automation permission for Mail, which the server process inherits.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Mail.app in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
mail-mcp
MCP server that gives Claude (and other MCP hosts) full access to Mail.app on macOS — search, read, send, reply, flag, move, and more — across every account configured in Mail.app (iCloud, Exchange, IMAP, etc.).
Prerequisites
- macOS (Mail.app required)
- Node.js 20+
- An MCP host: Claude Desktop, Amazon Quick, or any stdio MCP client
Installation
Claude Desktop — one-click install (recommended)
- Download
mail-mcp.mcpbfrom the latest release - Double-click the
.mcpbfile — Claude Desktop installs it automatically - Grant the required macOS permissions (see below)
Manual / Amazon Quick / other hosts
Or install globally:
Point your MCP host at the mail-mcp binary (stdio transport). Example config:
Required macOS permissions
Grant these to the application that runs the MCP host (Claude Desktop, Amazon Quick, etc.):
The MCP server process inherits permissions from the host application that launches it.
Tools
How it works
- Search & read — queries Mail's own Envelope Index SQLite database directly for fast, structured results across all accounts
- Actions (send, reply, flag, move, trash) — driven by AppleScript automation against Mail.app, so they work even for accounts where messages aren't stored as local files
Development
Interactive MCP testing:
Privacy Policy
mail-mcp is a local MCP server that runs entirely on your Mac. It has no backend, no telemetry, and makes no network requests of its own.
What it accesses:
- Mail.app's Envelope Index database (
~/Library/Mail/) — read-only, used for search queries - Mail.app via AppleScript — to read message bodies, send mail, flag, move, and trash messages
What it does NOT do:
- Collect, store, or transmit any data outside your Mac
- Connect to any external server or API
- Log message content anywhere
All email data stays on your device and is only passed to the MCP host (Claude Desktop or another client) as part of normal tool responses. You control exactly which tools Claude can invoke.

Score
50% of the applicable checks met
How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
- Reached in the last 30 days25 pts
Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
