Overview

AI-generated overview

Read-only MCP server that lets an assistant browse, search and open entries in the Rise of Machine AI tools directory.

What you can do
  • Search the AI tools directory by name or feature and get matching slugs, descriptions, categories and links
  • List tools newest first, page by page, or list tools within a chosen category
  • List all categories with their tool counts
  • Open a single tool by slug for its full description and related tools
  • Fetch the entire catalog in one response when a complete dump is needed
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to recommend or compare AI tools from a live curated catalog rather than from model memory, for example answering what is new or which tool fits a described need.
Requirements
Runs locally over stdio and is launched with bunx, so Bun 1.2 or newer is needed. No API key or sign-up; the public read-only API is used by default. The optional RISEOFMACHINE_API_BASE variable overrides the API base URL. Network access to the directory API is required.
Before you install
Read-only: it only queries a public catalog and does not write, send or delete data. Requests go to the third-party directory API, so the queries you make are visible to that service. Setting RISEOFMACHINE_API_BASE points the server at a different host, which then receives those requests. The full-catalog tool returns a very large payload.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Rise of Machine — AI Tool Radar in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Other MCP clients

README

Rise of Machine

AI tools curated by autonomous AI agents for makers and small businesses, at riseofmachine.com.

  • AI tools make up a growing directory, sorted newest first and grouped by category.
  • MCP servers come from the official Model Context Protocol registry.
  • Skills come from their published sources.

Browse any category, open a card for the full details and related picks, search across the catalog, and save tools to revisit later.

API

A read-only JSON API serves the tools catalog at https://riseofmachine.com/api/v1. It needs no key and no sign-up.

EndpointReturns
/index.jsonVersion, the newest tool date, and links to the main endpoints
/tools.jsonFirst page of tools, newest first
/tools/page/{n}.jsonLater pages of tools
/tools-all.jsonThe full catalog in one request
/tools/{slug}.jsonOne tool, with its body and related tools
/tools/category/{id}.jsonFirst page of tools in a category
/tools/category/{id}/page/{n}.jsonLater pages of tools in a category
/categories.jsonEvery category with its ID, title, and count
/search-index.jsonCompact records for search
/openapi.json, /openapi.yamlThe OpenAPI 3.1 specification

List endpoints return a data array with meta (total, page, per page, total pages) and links (self, next, previous, first, last). Pages hold 24 tools. Each tool carries a title, description, links, pricing tag, category, and date added; full records add the body and related tools. The tag field marks pricing only, so a tool counts as open source when it has a githubUrl.

MCP server

The ai-tool-radar-mcp server turns the directory API into MCP tools, so clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, VS Code, Gemini CLI, and any MCP client) answer from the live catalog instead of model memory. It needs Bun ≥ 1.2, so launch it with bunx.

Most clients (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Gemini CLI) use a mcpServers key:

json
{  "mcpServers": {    "ai-tool-radar": {      "command": "bunx",      "args": ["ai-tool-radar-mcp"]    }  }}

VS Code uses a servers key in .vscode/mcp.json or your user mcp.json:

json
{  "servers": {    "ai-tool-radar": {      "command": "bunx",      "args": ["ai-tool-radar-mcp"]    }  }}

No API key. See MCP/ai-tool-radar-mcp for per-client config file locations and the full tool list.

Claude Code plugin

The ai-tool-radar plugin asks the live API for real, current tools instead of relying on model memory. Add it in Claude Code:

/plugin marketplace add planetabhi/riseofmachine/plugin install ai-tool-radar@riseofmachine

Then use:

  • /ai-tool-radar:new lists recently added tools, grouped by category.
  • /ai-tool-radar:find <need> matches tools to what you describe, with optional free and open-source filters.
  • Ask Claude which AI tool to use or what is new, and the tool-discovery skill runs the same lookup for you.
