Overview

AI-generated overview

Poof's MCP server lets an assistant remove backgrounds from images, videos and animated GIFs through the Poof API, returning cutouts, mattes or stickers.

What you can do
  • Remove the background from an image given as base64 or URL, choosing output format, transparency or matte channels, background color, size, crop and fit
  • Remove the background from a video by public URL, producing transparent WebM/MOV, green-screen MP4, looping GIF or alpha matte, with audio kept except for GIF
  • Check a video job's status and get its download link, and poll it for free
  • Check account plan and remaining credit balance
When to use it
Useful when you want an assistant to produce transparent cutouts, product shots on a solid color, alpha mattes or GIF stickers from images and short videos without leaving the chat. It fits design, ecommerce and content workflows that already use Poof or are moving off remove.bg.
Requirements
Either the remote endpoint with OAuth sign-in to a Poof account, or a local npm package run with npx under Node.js. An API key is needed for the local mode via the POOF_API_KEY environment variable, or as an x-api-key header for the remote endpoint. A Poof account with credits is required, and video input must be a public https URL.
Before you install
Processing consumes paid credits: video costs 5 credits per second (10 above 30 fps), charged when a job is accepted and refunded only if it fails. The API key is a secret and should be kept out of shared configs. Images and videos are sent to Poof's servers, and video results are download links that expire after 24 hours. OAuth connections expire after 30 days without use.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Poof in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Connect the required credentials. They are stored privately and never shown on public pages.
  3. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Web executable via Streamable HTTP. Remote servers run from the web runtime once configured in a workspace.

Use with an agent

Paste this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor or another agent — or into SourceWeft chat. The agent reads this server's install guide, shows you its publisher, endpoint and sign-in, and adds it to your client once you agree. Keys never go into a command.

Read https://sourceweft.com/mcp/io.github.poof-bg%2Fmcp/install.md and connect the MCP server it describes to my client. Before changing any config, show me its publisher, endpoint and sign-in method and wait for my OK. Never put an API key in a command or in a file I would commit; ask me where it should come from.

Read the install guide the agent follows

Other MCP clients

Add this to your client's mcpServers config. The client completes OAuth sign-in on first connect.
