Overview

AI-generated overview

Checks whether Google AI Overviews cite a given website for chosen keywords, listing citations, competitors and changes over time.

What it does
Runs an Apify actor that, for each keyword, reports whether a Google AI Overview appears, every cited URL with redirects resolved, the target site's citation position, competitor domains and brand mentions, organic rank, and citations gained or lost since the previous run. It supports any Google country and language and returns results as structured rows through Apify's REST API, Python and JavaScript clients, or MCP.
When to use it
Useful for SEO, AEO and GEO work where you want to measure whether AI answers cite your site for specific queries and how that shifts between runs. It fits keyword-level citation tracking and competitor comparison rather than general web search.
Requirements
A remote MCP endpoint at mcp.apify.com with an Authorization header carrying an Apify API token as a Bearer token. A free Apify account is needed to obtain the token, and the actor runs on the Apify platform with network access.
Before you install
The Authorization header carries an Apify API token, which is a billable credential; keep it secret. Runs are paid per keyword, so costs accrue with usage, though keywords Google blocks are retried and not charged. Queries and the target domain are sent to Apify and Google as part of the run.

FAQ

How do I check if my website is cited in Google AI Overviews? Run AEO & GEO Tracker on Apify with your keywords and your domain. For each keyword it reports whether an AI Overview appears, whether your site is cited and at what position, which other domains are cited, and what changed since your last run.

Is there a Google AI Overview API? No. Google doesn't offer an API for AI Overviews. AEO & GEO Tracker returns them as structured data through Apify's REST API, Python and JavaScript clients, integrations and MCP.

What does AEO mean? AEO (answer engine optimization) and GEO (generative engine optimization) mean optimizing content so AI answers — such as Google's AI Overviews — cite your website. Tracking citations per keyword over time is how you measure it.
