Browser tasks, sessions, and recipes for MCP and HTTP automation.

Overview

AI-generated overview

A local MCP server that runs browser tasks, sessions and recipes for automation, with optional planner backends.

What you can do
Run browser automation tasks and keep them in reusable sessions, driven from an assistant over MCP or HTTP. Apply bundled recipes for repeatable browser workflows, with an optional recipes directory override. Optionally route task planning through a CLIProxy or OpenCode backend, configured by base URL and model. Reuse an existing Chromium or Chrome user-data directory for warmed browser state, and choose a browser channel or visible versus headless mode.
When to use it
Worth adding when an assistant should drive a real browser on the user's desktop for repeatable, recipe-based web tasks, and when you already have a planner backend or a warmed browser profile you want to reuse.
Requirements
Runs as a local process on the user's machine via the npm package web-task-api over stdio; desktop only, not usable from the web. Needs Node.js and a Playwright-compatible browser. Optional settings include BROWSER_CHANNEL, BROWSER_USER_DATA_DIR, HEADLESS, the WEB_TASK_API_DATA_DIR, WEB_TASK_API_RECIPES_DIR and WEB_TASK_API_TEMP_DIR paths, and the CLIProxy or OpenCode base URL and model variables.
Before you install
The optional CLIPROXY_AUTH_TOKEN secret is passed by environment variable; keep it out of shared configs. Pointing BROWSER_USER_DATA_DIR at a real Chrome profile exposes that profile's logged-in sessions and cookies to the automation. Browser tasks act on live sites and may submit forms or change data, and planner backends receive task content. The temp and data directory overrides can redirect where run state is written.

Installation

In SourceWeft

  1. Open Web Task in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
  2. Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.

Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.

Score

25% of the applicable checks met

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

  • Reached in the last 30 days25 pts

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

  • Auth declared10 pts

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
