Your coding agent answers with dashboards: charts and tables from read-only SQL, Excel and CSV.
Overview
Local MCP server that lets a coding agent answer data questions with dashboards of charts, tables and headline numbers from read-only SQL, Excel or CSV.
- What you can do
- Run read-only SQL queries against a Postgres database or SQLite file, or read a folder of Excel and CSV files
- Turn query results into a dashboard with a chosen chart per result, tables and headline numbers
- Show boards in a browser page, in a terminal pane beside the agent, or inside your own React app
- Set up and check the integration for coding agents such as Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and Gemini CLI
- When to use it
- Useful when you want a coding agent to answer questions about a database or spreadsheet folder and present the results visually rather than as raw text, especially while working in a terminal or a project folder.
- Requirements
- Runs locally over stdio via npx; needs Node.js 22.13 or later. Point it at a Postgres URL or SQLite file through the SHOWBOARD_DB environment variable or the init command, or at a folder of .xlsx, .xlsm, .csv or .tsv files. Desktop only; the board page is served on localhost.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Showboard in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.
README
Ask in your terminal. Get a dashboard on your screen.
Showboard is an MCP server that lets Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and other coding agents answer questions about your SQL database, or a folder of Excel and CSV files, with charts, tables and headline numbers: in your browser, inside your own app, or beside your terminal.
The agent writes a few read-only SQL queries and a short layout. Showboard runs the queries, picks a chart for each result, lays out the board and puts it on your screen. Every number comes from a query, one click away under its chart.
[Claude Code in a terminal beside Showboard's page in a browser: asked for the best seller of 2026, Claude calls Showboard's draw tool and a board of headline numbers, a line chart and bar charts appears]Let your agent set it up
In your project, ask your coding agent:
Set up Showboard in this project: run
npx showboard guideand follow it.
The guide is written for the agent. It has the agent pick the path that fits the project (spreadsheets, a database, or your own app), run the commands, and check its own work with npx showboard doctor. doctor starts Showboard the way each agent will and says how to fix anything that fails.
Or by hand
You need Node.js 22.13 or later.
A folder of spreadsheets, or a database:
Restart your agent in that folder, then open http://localhost:4710, or run npx showboard pane in a terminal beside the agent. init writes the settings for Claude Code, plus any agent the folder already has settings for. To name others, pass --agent codex, opencode, bharatcode, gemini, cursor, vscode (or all).
Inside your own app (React 19):
Then point the agents at it: npx showboard init --url http://localhost:3000/showboard.
Commands
Safe by design
- Postgres queries run in a
READ ONLYtransaction, with a time and row limit. SQLite files are opened read-only, and spreadsheets are only read. - Only
SELECTis accepted. - In your app, the agent can run only the actions you register, each checked against its input schema.
- The handler answers only
localhost, and refuses requests from other websites.

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.
