Google Maps Platform Code Assist MCP
Overview
Grounds an assistant's Google Maps Platform coding answers in official documentation, code samples, and best-practice instructions via RAG.
- What you can do
- The gmp-code-assist server exposes two tools. retrieve-google-maps-platform-docs searches Google Maps Platform documentation, code samples, architecture center material, and GitHub repositories through retrieval-augmented generation, taking a required query plus optional product-area filter and caller identifier. retrieve-instructions returns foundational context on Google Maps Platform best practices. It is meant to make LLM answers about Maps APIs more accurate and current.
- When to use it
- Use it when building or migrating applications on the Google Maps Platform and you want the assistant's guidance grounded in official docs rather than guesswork, for example choosing between APIs, upgrading a map from 2D to 3D, or adapting existing code to newer products.
- Requirements
- The registry entry describes a local stdio process installed from the npm package @googlemaps/code-assist-mcp, with no declared authentication, environment variables, or headers. The README states that npm version is deprecated and will be unavailable after July 1, 2026, and recommends a Google-hosted remote MCP endpoint instead. Desktop only.
Installation
In SourceWeft
- Open Platform Ai in the dashboard and add it to a workspace.
- Enable the server for the chats that should use its tools.
Desktop only via STDIO. STDIO servers start a local process, so they need the SourceWeft desktop host.
Other MCP clients
Follow the launch instructions in the repository.

Description
[!WARNING] The npm version of Google Maps Platform Code Assist is deprecated. It will no longer be available as of July 1, 2026. Please use the securely hosted remote MCP version documented in this README as the primary method of connection.
This repository contains the Google Maps Platform Code Assist toolkit, a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that enhances the responses from large language models (LLMs) used for developing applications with the Google Maps Platform by grounding them in the official, up-to-date documentation and code samples.

Install the agent skills in Gemini CLI:
Install the Google Maps Platform Code Assist toolkit for other MCP clients.
For information about installing and using the toolkit with any MCP client, as well as terms of use, see the Code Assist toolkit README.
Sample Prompts
Use these example prompts to get started with the Code Assist MCP server or supported AI agents:
- Show me how to use the Routes API and display it on a Map in React + Typescript.
- I'm upgrading my map from 2D to 3D Phtotorealistic - what are my options and how would I do that with my existing codebase?
- Change my Places API (new) Text Search API implementtaion to use Places UI Kit. Estimate the amount of cost savings per user this change will make.
- Explain the difference between Address Validation and Geocoding. Which one should I apply for my current codebase for an ecommmerce checkout use case and why?
- I need an API key - can you get one and add it to my app envrionment secrets?

How complete this listing is, computed from the registry entry, the endpoint and public sources. Not a rating of the server and not a statement that it is safe or working today: reachability is a dated check, and no installs or reviews go into the score.

Keep the endpoint answering the MCP handshake; SourceWeft probes it every 30 days.

Declare the credential headers in the registry entry, or keep the endpoint answering the probe so its auth can be classified.
